Crew- Cut Comedian George Gobel Dies THE ASSOCIATED PRESS LOS ANGELES Crew-cut, down-home comedian George Gobel, who began performing as a child and turned his song and dance act into a 60-year show business career, died Sunday.

He was 71. He died at Encino Hospital of complications after bypass surgery to the major artery in his left leg, said Sam Honigberg, a longtime friend. Gobel had Gobel been in the Gobel periodically for five weeks the operation, Honigberg said. made his debut at age 11 on the WLS Barn Dance revue in his native Chicago. joined the Army Air Corps World War II and served as a B-26 pilot instructor, entertaining his Army buddies with humor he began to introduce into his singing and guitar act, Honigberg said.

His break came after 40 appearances on the "Garry Moore Show" and seven on NBC's "Saturday Night Revue." "The George Gobel Show" premiered on NBC in 1954 and became an instant hit. He won an Emmy in 1954 for Outstanding New Personality. Younger audiences will remember Gobel as a regular on "Hollywood Squares" and "The Tonight Show" in the 1970s and early 1980s. Gobel is survived by his wife of 40 years, who he fondly referred to as "spooky old Alice;" a son, Gregg; two daughters, Georgia Bryan and Leslie McIntosh; and three grandchildren. Funeral services are set for Thursday at St.

Cyril of Jerusalem Church in Encino, Honigberg said. Rites Set Wednesday For Arvin B. Hayhurst Services for Arvin B. Hayhurst, a former teacher at John Adams Middle School for 23 years, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary.

Hayhurst, 61, taught computer to sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students in Michigan, Alamogordo and Albuquerque for 32 years. He also taught for one year at Highland High School. After he retired from teaching, Hayhurst worked for the Office of Senior Affairs as an escort driver and served as the treasurer of the West Mesa Mealsite. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; daughter Sharon Rochelle and son-in-law Manuel Munes of Bernalillo; granddaughter Merrilyn Rochelle of Santa Fe; uncle Kenneth Bailey and wife Dora of Oklahoma; and aunt Alice Lourense of Oklahoma. Donations may be made to the Senior Aid Foundation, 714 Seventh St.

A storm producing heavy snow moved eastward and out of the upper Mississippi Valley. The storm left up to a foot of snow at Little Falls, and 9 inches at Cumberland, Wis. Snow showers continued into Sunday afternoon over much of Michigan, southwest Missouri, northern and central Oklahoma, northeast Colorado, southeast Wyoming, eastern Montana and much of Nebraska. Some people in southeast Oklahoma were surprised by great-grandchildren.

Surviving as well are many nieces and nephews. Mr. Giomi owned an automobile agency in his early years, was in banking, owned Pueblo Realty, and owned the Lo La Mi Lodge. He was an early member of the Albuquerque Country Club, Charter Member of the Petroleum Club and a member of the Elks Club. He loved golfing, hunting and fishing.

He was a WWI veteran, and for the last two-and-a-half years resided with his daughter and son-in-law at Cochiti Lake. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Al Schneider as Celebrant.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brett Wilson, Bruce French, Steve French, Gregg French and Richard D. Dow. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Ball and Michael Ball. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Casa Angelica, 5629 Isleta Blvd.

S.W., Albuquerque, N.M. 87105, or Brothers of the Good Shepherd, 10127 Guadalupe Trail N.W., Albuquerque, N.M. 87107. Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle N.E., are in charge of arrangements. HOUSLER-Gilbert Wayne Houser, age 82, died at a local Hospital Saturday February 23, 1991.

He had been a resident of Albuquerque for one year coming from Sioux City, Iowa. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He was a veteran serving in the Army. He is survived by his wife Gladys Housler of Albuquerque; and a son, Dan Clute of Sioux City, Iowa; and three grandchildren. Graveside service will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m.

at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. All arrangements by the Crestview Funeral Home, 7601 Wyoming N.E. HUNT Jefferson Hunt, 81, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday. He is survived by his wife Tulsa V. Hunt of the home; a niece, Jo Anne Nichols and husband Jim of Albuquerque; a nephew, Richard M.

Vittitow and wife Linda of Albuquerque; four great nephews and one great niece; numerous nieces and nephews in Dayton, OH, and Florida. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Hunt was born in Louisville, KY, January 3, 1910. He married Tulsa Vittitow in 1938, in Kentucky.

He was a salesman and Dairy owner, working for Valley Gold Dairies in Albuquerque from 1956-57, and for Royal Crest Dairies of Dayton, OH, from 1940-1972. He was a member of Christian Church. Services will be Monday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming N.E. with Pastor Steve Kunkle officiating.

Interment will follow at Sandia Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Richard Vittitow, Darren Vittitow, John Tatman, E.A. Tanner, James Everitt and Steve Hunter. Honorary Pallbearers will be Myron Davis, Jim Nichols, Kenneth Shively and Kenneth Everitt. He is survived by his son Richard Keppler and wife Judith of Albuquerque; two grandsons, Stephen and Edward Keppler; sister Adele Irwin; nephew Paul Irwin and wife Barbara; niece Judith Brocksmith; and a sister-in-law and cousin. Mr Keppler was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marion G. Keppler. Services will be Wednesday, 10:00 a.m.

Anderson of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by a brother, Roy H. Langford of Tulsa, OK in 1966, and her parents George C. Langford and Bertie F. Langford.

Mrs. Langford began her education at Alpharetta, Georgia and came with her famly members, the late Bertie Fouts Langford and George Clinton Langford, to Oklahoma in 1923. The famiy established their home at Sallisaw where they farmed until they moved to Osage County in 1923. Mr. Langford entered the early day oilfield activities and the family resided in Burbank and Shidler where she completed her education and graduated from Shidler High School in 1928.

She was first employed by Floyd Yarbrough, Attorney-At-Law, Pawhuska. She came to Bartlesville in 1932 and attended the Bartlesville Business College. In 1936 she was employed by the Phillips Petroleum Company and remained in their employment until she was retired in 1973, as an executive secretary. She was a member of the Jane Phillips Sorority. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Bartlesville, OK.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Fourth and Cherokee Bartlesville, OK 74003, in memory of Anna Langford. Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Fern Chapel of Strong-Thorne, 1100 Coal S.E. A private Interment will follow the Funeral Services. Strong-Thorne, 1100 Coal S.E., is in charge of all arrangements.

MONTOYA- of Christian Burial for Rudy Montoya will be celebrated this morning at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Rev. Patricio Baca Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Bernalillo Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Pete Gutierrez, Orlando Aragon, David Chavez, Marcelino Gonzales, Armando Trujillo and Mary Ellen Cano. QUINTANA-Funeral services for Celia E. Quintana were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne, 1100 Coal SE with Rev. Tomas C. Gonzalez, officiating.

Interment will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Strong-Thorne, 1100 Coal SE, in charge of arrangements. RUSSELL-Mass for John M. Russell, will be celebrated Monday, 10:00 a.m.

Smith, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1942, died Saturday, February 23, 1991. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Spalding and husband, Frank, of Tijeras; grandchildren, Theresa Cervo of Raton, N.M., Bill Bumphrey of Holloman AFB, N.M., and Craig Phillips of Lancaster, six greatgrandchildren; and sisters, Carolyn Costello of Reno, NV, Evangeline Batchelor of Phoenix, AZ, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick of Salida, Rosie Schmitt of Lakin, KY, and Josephine Triplett of Boise City, OK. Rosary will be recited Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University N.E.

Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, with Father Paul M. Baca, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale Blvd, S.E.

Friends may visit French Mortuary, Tuesday, from p.m. Agnes Eliza Trafford, age 80, died at a local Nursing Home. She was a resident of Albuquerque for fourteen years, coming from Arlington Illinois. She was a member of The Christ Methodist Church in Albuquerque. She was a member of the Eastern Star of Grandville, Michigan.

She is survived by husband Oris L. Trafford; son Edmund Lee and wife Michaelene Gorney, Atlanta, GA; daughter Ruth S. Clark and husband James from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; and sister Jean Francis McLaughlin from Pompano Beach, Fla; she is also survived by four grandchildren. Services will be held Tuesday, February 26, 11:00 a.m. at Crestview Funeral Home Chapel.

The Garcia Mortuary, 8th and Stover SW, in charge of service arrangements. BROWN -Raymond Clifford Brown, a resident of Albuquerque since 1963, died suddenly, February 21, 1991. Raymond was born in Mountainair, NM, August 20, 1958. He attended a public school in Albuquerque and graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1978. Raymond enjoyed water sports and was very involved in his work, which ranged from construction to four wheel drives.

Otero and husband Rudy of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Randy Otero and wife Monica of Albuquerque and Sharon Otero of Los Angeles, CA; and two sisters, Janet Steele of Loveland, CO and Dorothy Steward of Ft Jones, CA. She taught school in Los Lunas for 32 years and belonged to the Retired Teachers Association of Los Lunas. Services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and grandson Keith Ball of Ohio and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Giralimo Giomi. He was also preceded by three brothers, Charles, John, Hugo; and a sister, Emma Domenici. He is survived by four daughters, Joline Dow Lease and husband Ed, Dorothy French Isburgh and husband Pete, Patsy Wilson and husband Art, Connie Ball and husband Rick; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two great- arrangements by Crestview Funeral Home, Wyoming Blvd.

N.E. hospital since Gobel singing radio He during WEHLANDER-Kim Denae Wehlander, age 30, beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend left us on Thursday, Febraury 21, 1991. She was vibrant and full of life, whether it be skiing down a mountain slope, playing a competitive game of tennis, blazing trails with her mountain bike, working out, or dancing the night away. She greatly loved and cared for the people around her, and always saw beauty in very simple things. We will miss her so much she has touched our lives forever.

She was a 25 year resident of Albuquerque coming from Nevada. Services for Kim will be held on Tuesday, February 26th, at the Alumni Memorial Chapel on the U.N.M. Campus at 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Nancy Caldwell, Scott Lewis, Keith Naylor, Leslie De George, John Peckering and Nenitte Jackson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kim Kurry, Sheri White, Mindy Wilkin, Cindy Crawford and Nancy Montoya; her Eldorado Cheerleading Friends.

Young, 73, a resident of Albuquerque for 67 years, originally of Tampa, Kansas, passed away on Saturday February 23, 1991. He is survived by one daughter, Donna Young of Albuquerque; two sons, Robert Young of Red River, NM and Phillip Young of Albuquerque; four sisters, Mary Wallace and Rose Van Cleave, both of Albuquerque, Lillian Warboys and Daisy Prybil, both of California; seven brothers, Ezra Young, Edwin Young, Earl Young, John Young, Jake Young, Benjamin Young, Edward "Buddy" Young, all of Albuquerque, and Erwin Young who is deceased. Mr. Young was born November 26, 1917 in Tampa, Kansas. He move to Albuquerque in 1922.

He went to Eugene Field Elementary School, Lincoln Jr. High School and Albuquerque High School. He then went to work for Motor Equipment Co. in September, 1935. He worked for them until 1942, when he joined the Army and served years in the South Pacific.

He returned to work for the Motor Equipment Co. In 1946, he married Hazel Saunders. In September 1959, Fred Williamson and he bought the machine shop from Motor Equipment Co. and moved it to 1645 N. Second N.W.

and named it, The Automotive Machine Service. Fred Williamson retired in September 1979, and sold his stock to Doug Anderson. Elmer Young retired in November 1990, and also sold his stock to Doug Anderson. Elmer Young was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for approximately 20 years. He worked with the Boy Scouts for approximately 6 years as a trustee for Troop 268.

Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Fairview Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. at StrongThorne 1100 Coal S.E., Strong-Thorne 1100 Coal S.E.

Giomi, 93, former owner of Pueblo Realty, was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, who was an active volunteer in the community. He owned an automobile agency in his early years, was in banking and owned Lo La Mi Lodge. An early member of the Albuquerque Country Club, he was also a charter member of the Petroleum Club and a member of the Elks Club. He is survived by four daughters, Joline Dow Lease and husband Ed; Dorothy French Isburgh and husband Pete; Patsy Wilson and husband Art; and Connie Ball and husband Rick; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and two greatgreat-grandchildren. Father Al Schneider will act as celebrant at the Mass.
