All) ALBt QIERQIE JOURNAL Tuesday, March 5, 1985 Company Buys 2 Albuquerque Radio Stations By Rick Nathanson JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Compass Communications will be headed by Don Curran and Herb Victor, former executives with Field Communications. Field was a large, profitable group of independent UHF television stations in the country before the voluntary liquidation last year by the company's owners. Compass Communications is also pursuing the purchase of additional radio properties and television stations in markets west of the Mississippi. Beaudin said. One of his immediate goals will be to try to raise the stations' Arbitron ratings, he said.

During the most recent rating period, KWXL-FM received a 5.7 share of the total radio listening audience in the Albuquerque area, and KRKE-AM received a one percent share. "We've been very active in promotions, and we will continue to do that, but there is no magic," Beaudin said. Compass Communications, a new management company based in the San Francisco Bay area, has taken over operation of two Albuquerque radio stations. The stations, KWXL-FM, and KRKE-AM, formerly were owned by the Peoria Journal Colorado Springs; KVUU-FM, PuebloColorado Springs; KFRM-AM, Salina, and KICT-FM, Wichita, Kan. Ralph Beaudin, the new general manager of the Albuquerque stations, replaces Dave Ianni.

Beaudin said there are no plans to immediately change the format of KWXL, also called 94-Rock, and KRKE, which plays contemporary hits. "There are always changes in the works, as to what they are, I haven't the slightest idea until I spend some time in the city, some time with the people at the stations, and some time with the advertising community," II '-I'll I II Vr I IP iwiiihr (Hp II ivasi5tit, GUARANTEED REPAIR SERVICE We Stock All Plumbing Parts Supplies STOP SMOKING Lose Weight-Hypnosis Biofeedback Behavioral Medicine Sol.
