5:30, 7 30, 930 ROLLING ACRES CINEMA 2 "Norma Rae" IPG). U0, 3 30, 5 30, 7.30, 9 30. Best bets this week ADl'LT "The Deer Hunter." Director Michael Cimino observes the personalities and small-town culture of three Pennsylvania steel-workers, then exposes them to the stresses of war (in Vietnam). The resulting changes upon men and community are intended to mirror the effects of the war upon a nation. Cimino's epic drama was the Oscar winner for 78.

"Norma Rae." The title character, superbly portrayed by Sally Field, is a textile mill drudge, slightly shady but quite an independent young woman, who plucks up her courage and helps a New York labor organizer battle company bullies on behalf of trade unionism. Look for Martin Ritt's social drama to be a strong contender in the next Academy Award derby. "The China Syndrome." Shades of Three-Mile Island? No, chronology made the movie almost a preview of the event. Producer Michael Douglas' entertaining melodrama concerns a near muss at a nuclear power station and the efforts of a TV news crew (Douglas and Jane Fonda) and a plant manager (Jack Lemmon) to expose the corporate coverup. "Coming Home." Jon Voight and Jane Fonda received Oscars after being matched up as a Vietnam paraplegic and a Marine captain's wife who embark upon romance and betrayal of the woman's marriage.

The love affair is supposed to be a reflection of the alienations enforced by Vietnam. FAMILY "The Champ." Forty-some years ago, it was a bleary, teary tale of a washed-up fighter (played by Wallace Beery, of course) trying to hang on to the affections of the young son who adores him. But that was then. Now it's dreary, bleary and teary as a remake (sans Beery) with Jon Voight and young Ricky Schroder agitating the tear ducts. Mckinley i 90i soth St.
