FRANKFORD Stephen P. Cadden 83, of R.D. 2, died Wednesday of complications from diabetes in Milford Memorial Hospital. Mr. Cadden was an attorney with the Internal Revenue Service for 40 years.

He worked in Baltimore and Philadelphia. He retired as a trial lawyer in 1973. He is survived by his wife, Elsie a son, Stephen P. Ill of Frank-ford; two sisters, Grace-Helen Tucholka and Kathleen C. Joyce, both of Baltimore.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel Louden Park Cemetery, Wilkins Avenue, Baltimore, where friends may call after 12:30. Burial will be in the adjoining Sarah T.McDermott Sarah T. McDermott, 87, formerly of 45-D E. Reamer Middleboro Crest Apartments, died Thursday in Southgate Health Care Center, Carneys Point, N.J.

Mrs. McDermott was a home-maker and a member of the Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church in Pennsville, N.J. Her husband, Daniel died in 1967. She is survived by a son, Francis J. of Wilmington; a daughter, Mary T.

O'Brian of Pennsville; 10 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church, Pennsville. Friends may call from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. at Laughrey Funeral Home, 1 N.

Wheatley, 78, of 5 Maple Milford, died Sunday of a stroke in Kent Convalescent Center. Mrs. Wheatley was a sales clerk at Milford Pharmacy in Milford for 20 years. She retired in 1980. She was a native of Willis Wharf, Va.

Her husband, Orville died in 1973. She is survived by four daughters, Muriel Kuhlmann of Milford, Alta Naylor of Brandon, Vt, Barbara Bizzarro of Florence, and Geraldine Willis of Dover; three sisters, Pansy Bundick of Virginia Beach, Marguerite Sturgis of Willis Wharf, and Jacqueline Christman of El Paso, Texas; nine grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Milford. Funeral services and burial were Wednesday in Brandon.

Howard B. Short ELLENDALE Howard B. Short, 82, of R.D. 1, died of heart failure Thursday in Milford Memorial Hospital. Mr.

Short worked for the state forestry department for about seven years as an equipment operator. Before that he was self-employed at a variety of jobs. He retired in 1972. His wife, Agnes, died in 1984. He is survived by a son, Howard K.

of Ellendale; three grandchildren and a step-grandchild. Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Oakley Church, Ellendale. Friends may call Sunday night from 7 to 9 at Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Mary F. David TOWNSEND Mary F. David, 82, of 311 Flemings Landing Road, was dead on arrival Thursday of a heart attack at Kent General Hospital, Dover. Mrs. David was a homemaker.

Her husband, Wilson died in 1983. Surviving are a brother, William J.C. Francis Sr. of Townsend; three sisters, Fannie Latta of Wilmington, Nellie Johnson of Town-send and Adelaide Heckman of Middletown. Services will be 2 p.m.

Monday in Friendship United Methodist Church. Friends may call Sunday night from 7 to 9 at Faries Funeral Chapel, Smyrna. Burial will be in Townsend Cemetery. DEATH NOTICES John A. Splan John A.

Splan, 34, of 115 Chestnut Vilone Village, died Wednesday of heart failure in St. Francis Hospital. Mr. Splan was born and raised in Wilmington. He attended Corpus Christi elementary and high schools, and graduated in 1974 from St.

Mary's Seminary University in Baltimore. He received a degree as a registered nurse in 1983 from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Tow-son, and was an operating room nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital until March. He was active and well-known as an actor in Baltimore-area theater.

He is survived by his parents, Francis X. and Rose M. Ciconte Splan, with whom he lived; a brother, Francis X. Jr. of New Castle; and a sister, Anne Bogush, also of Vilone Village.

Mass of Christian Burial will be' offered at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Peter's Cathedral, Sixth and West streets, where friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Crypt of the Pieta in Cathedral Cemetery. Jessie W. Eakle MILTON Jessie W. Eakle, 74, of R.D. 2, formerly of Lewes, died Wednesday of heart failure in Beebe Hospital, Lewes. Mrs.

Eakle was a homemaker and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes. She is survived by her husband, Eugene I. two sons, Alvin M. of New Market, and Eugene I. Ill of Milton; a daughter, Jeanette Reeve of Milton; a sister, Elsie Long of Staunton, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Slocomb Ernest Marshall Slocomb, 88, of 1303 Delaware Plaza Apartments, died Tuesday in Veterans Administration Hospital, Elsmere. Mr. Slocomb worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad in the Wilmington Shops for about 20 years. He retired in 1964. He was an Army veteran of World War I.

He is survived by two sisters, Eunice S. Simmons of Plaza Apartments and Helen S. Pilchard of Pocomoke, Md. Burial services will be at 2 p.m. todayat Gracelawn Abbey in Gracelawn Memorial Park, Du Pont Highway, Wilmington Manor.

Eighth Road, was dead on arrival at St. Francis Hospital, after a heart attack. Mr. Thompson, formerly of Haz-lettville, retired on disability after several years as manager of a 7-Eleven Store in Dover, Del. He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Dilly of Ohio, Virginia Thompson of Lincoln, and Tina Thompson at home; a brother, Theodore Thompson of Harbeson, two sisters, Francis Clark of Griffin, and Mary Summers of Camden, and three grandchildren.

Oldham Wickes Davis Oldham Wickes "Dick" Davis, 72, of Edgeroad Lane, Shellburne, died Wednesday of cancer in Christiana Hospital. Mr.

Davis was an accountant for 35 years with the Du Pont Co. He retired in 1976. He was a volunteer for a state social services agency. He participated in the Adopt-a-Family program. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

He was a member of the Retired Mens Luncheon Group sponsored by the Martin Luther Foundation. He is survived by his wife, Jan-ette a son, John O. of Claymont; a daughter, Sandra D. Eichbaum of University Park, and two grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m.

Saturday in All Saints Chapel, Grace United Methodist Church, Ninth and West streets. There will be no viewing. Burial will be in Cecilton Cemetery, Cecilton, Md. Burris SMYRNA Elmer W. Burris, 88, of 16 N. Delaware died of a stroke Wednesday in Kent General Hospital. Mr. Burris was a farmer in the Middletown area for 37 years.

He retired in 1967. His wife, Lena, died in 1971. He is survived by two sons, Wilson of Smyrna and Raymond F. of Middletown; three daughters, Ruth B. Carter and Helen Walker, both of Wilmington, and Louise Aspril of Newark; a sister, Hilda Smith of Dover; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Tirabassi was a retired self-employed seamstress and a member of St. Polycarp's Catholic Church. Her husband, Ralph, died in 1958. Surviving are a son, Phillip of Newark; a daughter, Rose Taylor of Hackensack, N.J.; two brothers, Samuel and Anthony Taglieri, both of New Jersey; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Marion N. Biederman DOVER Marion N. Biederman, 81, of R.D. 5, died Wednesday in Kent General Hospital. Mrs.

Biederman had been a patient at Delaware Hospital for the Chronically 111, in Smyrna, since June. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Harry died in 1969. She is survived by a son, Robert of Dover; two daughters, Marie Taylor of Townsend and Carol Wood of Kennett Square, two sisters, Grace Malin of Hockessin and Jessie Chandler of Avondale, a brother, Harry L. Dillworth of Unionville, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Earl Webb Sr. FREDERICA Earl Webb 89, of 106 Front died Wednesday of respiratory arrest in Kent General Hospital, Dover. Mr. Webb was a marine engineer with Interstate Oil Transport Co. in Philadelphia for 42 years.

He retired in 1970. He was an Army veteran of World War I. His wife, Elizabeth died in 1980. He is survived by a son, Earl Jr. of Dover; a daughter, Earlene Morris of Frederica; a sister, Sadie Abbott of Milford; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Grover Cleveland Hare LAUREL Grover Cleveland Hare, 79, of Seaford-Laurel Highway, died of heart failure Thursday in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. Mr.

Hare was a painter for Hastings, Eskridge Co. for 32 years. He retired in 1972. He was a former member of Blades Fire Co. His wife, the former Anna Mae Lingo, died in 1973.

Surviving are four sons, Joshua C. and Gilbert both of Seaford, and Franklin D. and Robert both of Blades; a sister, Rose H. Foskey of Laurel; 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m.

Schwalm was an engineer for 28 years with the Du Pont Co. He retired in 1978. He attended the University of Indiana and Purdue University. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He served with the Sixth Armored Division in England and France.

He was a major and participated in the invasion of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, and the drive to Germany. After the German surrender, he was in charge of a refugee camp. He retired from the Army Reserves after 28 years. After his discharge he earned a master's degree from Drexel University. He was a member of the Lions Club, the American Legion, and Eureka Lodge 23, He is survived by his wife, the former Marie Fessler; a son, John M.

21649. Kathryn A. Williams OCEAN CITY, N.J. Kathryn A. Williams, of 2105 Simpson died Tuesday of respiratory arrest in Linwood Convalescent Home.

Her age was not disclosed. Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She lived in Ocean City for the past 14 years, having moved there from Baton Rouge, where she lived for 24 years.

Before that she lived in Wilmington, for 15 years. She is survived by her husband, Rudolph two sons, the Rev. George S. Williams, Society of Jesus, of Loyola High School, Baltimore, and Dr. Michael Williams of Branch, and two grandchildren.

Wfim 11 beaten in robbery dies By ROBERT ENGLER III Staff reporter An elderly woman who was severely beaten in a November delicatessen robbery that left her husband dead has died of her injuries, a Christiana Hospital spokeswoman said. Esther Sklut, 74, who had lived with her late husband, Samuel, 71, in a house behind the Pennrose Deli in Rosehill Gardens, died in the hospital's intensive care unit at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, the spokeswoman said. The Skluts were alone in the store they had owned for 33 years at 3117 New Castle Ave.

the evening of Nov. 12 when a robber beat Samuel Sklut to death and bludgeoned his wife, police said. Troopers identified Ernest C. "Boo" Parson Jr. an escapee from the Plummer House work-release center in Wilmington as a suspect in the crime.

Warrants were obtained the day after the killing, charging the 24-year-old New Castle man with other armed robberies, but it was not until after he surrendered to Wilmington police on Nov. 15 that troopers charged him in the! Pennrose Deli robbery and killing. On Wednesday, a New Castle County grand jury handed up a 10-count indictment charging Parson, who is being held without bail at Gander Hill Prison in Wilmington, with two counts of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, escape after conviction and conspiracy. Besides the Pennrose Deli robbery, the indictment charges Parson with shotgun holdups on Nov. 3 at a Cumberland Farms store on Basin Road and Nov.
