BECKLEY POST-HERALD, BECKLEY, SATURDAY MOBNING, JUXE 16, 1951 TIGERS, DODGRS WIN LITTLE LEAGUE The Dodgers of the Beckley Little League withstood the challenge of the Yankees to tie the local race up among the four teams last night by rallying for two runs in the top of the sixth and eking out a 6 to 5 victory over that club, and this afternoon will try to knock down the challenge of the Tigers. This win moved mgr: Mor.ehouse's team, to second place. Both games were replete with thrills. There'll be another twin bill today, but instead of being jplaying under the lights, has been changed for a 1:30 afternoon start so as not to interfere' with the Bobby Benson show at night on the Woodrow Wilson football field. Dave Reitz and Jim Huffman, starting Dodger and Yank pitchers, were not around in the opeoer last night when the game was finished. After whiffing seven of the first nine batters the- first time around, Reitz weakened and when the Yanks went a run ahead at 5-4 in the fifth, Danny Williams took over and eventually got the win.

Huffman didn't go lour innings for the Yanks, but didn't absorb the loss as successor. Handy Kalloran, was on the mound when the Dodgers rallied to win in the sixth; Walks to Jim Edmundson and Charlie Light started the winning uprising. Reitz, who played third aften. relieved of mound duties, was the fellow who singled home tieing run. Then Halloran walked Ruddy Mahoney to force in the winning marker.

The lone hit off Gilbert" in the nightcap came with two down in the sixth and it was a sSngle by 'his mound rival, Howard Hurt, that prevented him from entering the Little League Hall of Fame. Gilbert and Hurt waged a scoreless pitching duel for three innings. Then in the fourth Gilbert singled, moved to third on an error by Farrar and scored on Neia's single. In the fifth a-fter George Thompson walked and Billy Andrews singled, Gilbert walloped a home run. to make his own game sure.

He 5 had twdNjf the four, hits secured run to make his own game sure. He had two of the four hits secured off the fine pitching of Hurt.
