SW, in charge of the arrangements. CRUTTENDEN Allen T. Cruttenden, 51, a resident of Albuquerque since 1973, died Friday, September 23, 1994. He is survived by bis father, Thomas S. Cruttenden of Albuquerque.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Myra Cruttenden in April of 1994. Mr. Cruttenden attended UNM, graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a degree in Journalism and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He was a member of the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau. Mr.

Cruttenden was employed with the Santa Fe Railroad, where he took early retirement as a dispatcher in 1993. He was also the owner of Floor Covering International E. Welch of Rockingham, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2: 00 p.m. at Glenwood United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev.

Vemon W. Brown. Burial will follow in Richmond Co. Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the home on 330 Lumyer Road, Rockingham, NC 28379.

HARRIS Stella Ann Harris, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1936, died Monday, September 26, 1994. Smith and husband, Kenneth, all of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Michelle Ann Poorbaugh and husband, Edward of Albuquerque, Yvonne Marie Kalcich and husband, Chuck of Phoenix, AZ, Kathleen Denise Myers of Albuquerque, and Joy Renee Haspert of Albuquerque; and great-grandson, Austin Edward Poorbaugh of Albuquerque.

Mrs. Harris was a member and past President of VFW 401 Auxiliary. She enjoyed working in her yard. Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., at St. Tberese Little Flower Catholic Church, 3400 4th St.

French Mortu-ary, 1111 University Blvd. NE. HORWITZ-Betty M. Horwitz, an Albuquerque resident since 1933 and a respected member for many years of the city's appraisal and civic communities, died on September 26, 1994 at Manor Care Heights Nursing Home. She was 85 and died of cardiac insufficiency, according to her son, Donald C.

Horwitz of Atlanta. Mrs. Horwitz bad resided at the Manor Care Nursing Center on Lester NE since November, 1992. Until her retirement in 1972, she was active in Albuquerque retailing for some 25 years. She and her husband.

member of the Sikh community in the Western Hemisphere, passed away in Roswell, NM at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, September 25, 1994. The man whom the Siri Singh Sahib Yogi Bhajan (the head of the Sikh Religion in the Western Hemisphere) called "The most beloved and gracious man" died peacefully at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Guru Meher Kaur Khalsa; his four daughters, Nirbhe Kaur Khalsa, Rama Kaur Khalsa, Gurujohn Kaur Khalsa and Siri Guru Dev Kaur Khalsa; his two sons, Robert Guest and O.C. Guest; and ten grandchildren. Guru Meher Singh lived to see his youngest daughter's wedding just two weeks ago in Espanola, NM.

Guru Meher Singh served as captain of the Orlando Jetport Fire Department for 25 years. A Navy Veteran of WWII, he worked as a Designer for the Mercury boat racing team, and holds several patents for his unique innovations. Beyond his immediate family, literally hundreds of Sikhs looked upon Guru Meher Singh as their father or grandfather. He was well known for his kindness, his humor, his homespun wisdom, and his great love of children. During his retirement in Albuquerque, NM, he loved to fashion beautiful toys out of wood for the Sikh children.

He had recently traveled to India to serve as a guide for the Sikh Children's Program there. In Roswell, NM, he served as Chaplain for the Sikh cadets attending New Mexico Military Institute; in that role, he and Guru Meher Kaur gave much love, support and guidance to the cadets who always had a cozy home to visit. Sikh businesses were closed Monday to honor his memory. Sikh Memorial Services were held at 3: 00 p.m., Monday, September 26, 1994 at McGee Memorial Chapel, 1320 Luisa, Santa Fe, NM. 983-9151 MARTINEZ Michael Anthony Martinez, 34, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, September 24, 1994.

He is survived by his parents, Cisco and Betty Tafoya of Albuquerque; sister, Brenda Quintans and husband, Zeke of Algodones step-sister, Phyllis Tafoya of Los Lunas; stepbrothers, Steve, Cisco and Lucas, also of Los Lunas; five nieces, Jeanette, Crystal, Elizabeth, Franchesca and Marisa Quintans; Fiancee, Gloria Romero; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be greatly missed. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 29, 1994 at 10:00 a.m., at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary wife, Louise of Corrales, NM. He is also survived by his sister, Jean and her husband, Bill Dame of Acthison, KS. The family would prefer in lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of choice.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, October 1994 at 10:30 a.m. at Hoffmantown Chapel, 8888 Harper Road NE. SANCHEZ Funeral Services for Mr. Perfilio Sanchez will be held on Thursday, at Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church, in Bernalillo, NM, where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Bernalillo Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday in the Mortuary Chapel from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday evening at Our Lady of Sorrow Church in Bernalillo, NM at 7:30 p.m. Arrangements by the Salazar Sons Mortuary, 400 3rd St. SW; STRAHL Clara Strahl, 70, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 1994.

She is survived by her husband, Maurice of the family home; two daughters, Pepl Strahl and Joanne Ashe and husband, Thomas; son, Roger Strahl; and five grandchildren, Marisa, Cedra, Ariel, Alexi and Anatoly. She met her husband in 1945 in Linz, Austria after courageously surviving the horrors of the Nazi Holocaust. Funeral Services will be held at Congregation Albert, 3800 Louisiana Blvd NE, Thursday, September 29, 1994 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society or the National Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC.

TAPLA Victoria Tapia, 87, a resident of Peralta, passed away on September 26, 1994. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta, and was the Alter Society President for many years. She owned and operated Tapia's Bar along with her husband, Ofelio from 1946 to 1970. She dearly loved her dog, Ike, who was always with her at the bar, and who all the Patrons knew as Tapia Bar Protector. Victoria also loved to pay bingo, and enjoyed going to Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ofelio of the family home in Peralta seven children, Philip and Theresa of Farmington, Felicita (Lita) Maes and husband, Gilbert of Valencia, Rosie T. Garcia and husband, Monce of Peralta, Frances Griego and husband, Julian of Peralta, John O. and Carmen of Albuquerque, Richard and Anna of Peralta; 28 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Maria Carbajal of Albuqerque, and Solia Carabajal of Albuquerque one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bennie and Lydia Tapia of Peralta; she is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews. There will be a viewing on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Valencia Catholic Cemetery.

Arrange resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday. Mr. Duran was preceded in death by his father, Max Duran. He is survived by his long time companion, Tberese Tafoya; one son, Andrew Tafoya of Albuquerque; three daughters, Brenda Cooper of Albuquerque, Elvida Tafoya of Silver City, and Molly Tafoya of Albuquerque; his mother, Rachel Flores of Albuquerque; two brothers, Joe Duran of Santa Clara, CA, and Charles Duran of Albuquerque; three sisters, Dolores Duran of Moriarty, Marine Romero and Estella Madrid of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr.

Duran was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be today from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the Rosary, which will be recited at 7:30 p.m., at the Garcia Mortuary Chapel. She is survived by one granddaughter, Lisa Patton and husband, Kenn Patton; and two great-grandsons, Torrey Patton and Taylor Patton, all of Colorado Springs, CO. She and her husband Clarence, operated Durham Sales Company in Albuquerque for many years. She was an avid bowler and loved animals. Cremation has taken place. She is survived by her sisters, Myra Carlock of Phoenix, AZ, and Elizabeth Lansley of Oceanside, CA; nephew, Gordon Dawson and wife, Evelyn of Albuquerque; nieces, Judy Belvin and husband, Bill of Albuquerque, Ruth Davidson and husband, Jay of Albuquerque, Carol Carlock of Showlow, AZ, Joyce De Leon and husband, Bill of Downey, CA; and several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Dawson was preceded in death by her husband, George Dawson in 1962. She was a member of La Mesa Presbyterian Church and the Daughters of the Nile. Horwitz, owned and managed the Navajo Indian Store on Central Ave SW, from the late 1930 's until 1946. In subsequent years, she was the Manager and Buyer for the China, Silver and Gift Departments at American Furniture as well as the former Goldwater's and Fedway department stores. After she retired from retailing, she established her own appraisal business. She achieved recognition throughout New Mexico as an expert appraiser of antique porcelain, silver and art objects. She retired in 1984 because of ill health.

In the 1940's and '50's, Mrs. Horwitz was active in a variety of local organizations, including: Council of Social Agencies; Recreation Advisory Board, Albuquerque Public Schools; United Jewish Appeal, and United Way. She served two terms as President of Congregation Albert Sisterhood, and was co-chairman of the Temple's 50th Anniversary Celebration in 1947. Mrs. Horwitz was a native of Hancock, Michigan and a graduate of Northern State Teachers College, Marquette, Michigan.

She was a teacher in Michigan prior to her marriage In 1931. At her death she was a member of Congregation Albert. In addition to her son and his wife, Linda, she is survived by her daughter, Helen of New York City; and her grandson, Jeffrey of Phoenix; and granddaughter, Parish Hall, with the Rev. Fr. Mike Shea, as celebrant.

ATKINSON Leroy "Boro" Atkinson, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, September 24, 1994. He was born November 15, 1915, on his father's farm near Grandview, Texas. Leroy was a high school football star when he met Wilmerine Bollin. They were married in 1935. Leroy and Wilmerine started out in Gallup, New Mexico, where be began to learn the business of Trading with the Navajo Indians.

After working for other Indian traders, he determined it was time to go into business for himself. Box Canyon Trading Post was the beginning of a career that lasted 47 years. An interview and photo was placed in the Route 66 book noting Leroy for the quality and finish of the Navajo Jewelry he had produced. He was interviewed In Life magazine and the New Mexico magazine. Leroy was a member of the ALAA-Elks.

He was highly respected for bis abilities, integrity and his willingness to always help others. Leroy loved to chew on large cigars, but to his friends amazement, the cigar was never lit. This everpre-sent unlit cigar became Leroy's descriptive trademark. His counsel, love, caring and generosity will always be remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wilmerine Atkinson of the home; daughter, Tyler Atkinson of Santa Fe; sons, Joe Atkinson and wife, Jeanelle of Durango, CO, and Lynn Atkinson and wife, Donna of Tucson, AZ; foster son, Leroy Dayea and wife, Stella of Gallup; grandchildren, Eric Bonecutter, Jona Bonecutter, Josh Atkinson, Shauna Atkinson, Tracy Atkinson, Erin Atkinson, Katy Atkinson, Kerrl Atkinson and Suzanna Dayea; one great-grandchild; brother, Herman Atkinson of Scottsdale, AZ; and sister, Anna Mae Panos of Tucson, AZ.

HARRISON Mr. James Robert "Bob' Harrison, 72, of Lakeland, FL of 1006 Parakeet Trail, died early Tuesday, September 27, 1994 In Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, FL He was retired Mechanical Engineer from Sandia born December 19, 1921 in Sanford, a son of the late Emmett F. and Jessie Hawkins Harrison. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp.

WWII. Mr. Harrison worked for Sandia Lab. in New Mexico for 30 years or more. He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Long Welch; two brothers.
