BECKLEY POST-HERALD, BECKLEY, W. MONDAY MORNING, JUNE 10. 1974 THREE National Marbles Tournament Will Begin Today Cale Yarkorougl Wins Auto Race RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) Cale Yarborough, gutting it ou to the end with a rapidly tying gas tank, scored his sec ond straight Riverside Nationa Association of Stock Car Aut Racing victory Sunday. Yarborough finished the 36T mile, 138-lap race 2.7 second ahead of Bobby Allison, wh apparently lost the race whe he elected to stop for fuel nea the end.

The top four cars i the race were Chevrolets. Allison, of Hueytown, Ala. had a nine-second lead and wa pulling away, but pulled intc the pits on the 130th lap. Afte the pit stop, Allison returned te the race nine seconds beliim Yarborough The last eight laps brough the 41,000 fans to their feet a Allison desperately tried catch the Timmonsviile, S. county commissioner.

With his victory, Yarborough won $14,425 to bring his Riv erside pay check so far this season to $29,850. In January Yarborough ran out of gas two laps from the end of the West ern 500 here but managed to bring his car sputtering across, the finish line for his first roac racing victory ever. In the two races, Yarborough has led 215 of the 329 laps, chiding 91 Sunday. Pole-sitter George Follmer oi i Beach, Calif, dropped out of the race after leading the first lap and appearing to make a runaway out of the event, when he broke timing chain in the engine of his Matador. Car owner Roge, Penske reported that Folmer apparently missed a shift and o'verrevved.

The race then became the two-car battle between Allison and Yarborough to the end, with Richard Petty's Dodge challenging them at mid-race until his engine blew on the 50th lap. Third place, two laps behind, went to Benny Parsons, the 1973 NASCAR champion from Ellerbe, N. C. and fourth to Cecil Gordon of Horse Shoe, N. C.

J. Hager hasn't lost any stuff. The Glen Daniel youngster hadn't played a game of marbles since winning the national crown last June. But he was able to give some lessons to this a Southeastern West Virginia entrants during a practice session here Sunday. Hager made a habit of keeping his shooter in the ring as he amazed fellow mibsters John Richmond and Jeff Chapman.

Green nailed down his third victory of the year--he'd won earlier in the Bob Hope Desert Classic and the Jacksonville Open--with a final round 68, four under par on the hot and muggy Whitemarsh Valley Country Club Course.
