twm F30 ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL Friday, November 28, 1986 'Shock' Radio In Electronic Rummages Bag of Fun 'Mi pi as many as 50 carts, resembling eight-track cartridges, for use during an average morning show. "I do get the occasional call from somebody who complains that something I said or that a comedy routine was distasteful, obscene or inappropriate," Trout says. "I'm not going to change, so all I can tell them is 'don't take anything I do seriously. It's only a Milt McConnell, vice president and general manager of KZRR, said there is nothing new about shock radio. FM radio, he says, is not heading in that direction.

"It's here to stay, but I don't think you'll see a lot of stations going that way, because their musical formats do not lend themselves to that type of 'personality' approach, McConnell said. How far should FM radio go? "It's up to individual communities to decide on tastes. That's why God put five buttons on the radio." CONTINUED FROM PAGE 29 maids call in to request detonation of patrons who give them a hard time and don't leave a tip; irate citizens want to blow up Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi or U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese; women want their ex-boyfriends or husbands vaporized; men request the same for former mates; and everybody hates orange barrels and lousy drivers. Trout obliges with a recording of a bomb detonation.

Participating listeners earn free meals or other prizes. Trout records all calls intended for on-air use as a precaution to screen obscenities and questionable remarks. Despite the loose appearance of the format, he follows a written script and a program log to guide him through the four hours of fast-paced, ambidextrous control room machinations. His gear includes records, compact discs, and JOURNAL PHOTO DEAN HANSON KZRR morning disc Jockey T.J. Trout walks the line between outrageous and shocking.
