Greenbrier Hotel Activities WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, Oct. 26, He's a man to whom weather is less than serious. It takes a cataclismic alteration in the elements to keep him indoors. Or it takes, as happened last winter, a session in the hospital to put him out of circulation. He's the Greenbrier Golf Club's most tireless athlete the man who averages over 300 rounds of golf POST-HERALD, BECKLEY, W.

After all he's Better Community" contest, which a i i 1 1 be conduct through General Federation of Woman's Dr. Hogg has been called West Virginia's Paul Bunyan. And not without reason. He's a huge man and ike most big men, gentle, quiet and kindly. His accomplishments as a man and as a citizen are many.

Born in Mason County anc5 more recreation facilities. in 1873, he payed fullback on the University's first football team and shortstop on its first baseball team. Then he left the state temporarily to attend and graduate at the top of his class from he old College of Physicians and Surgeons in Baltimore. In 1895 he opened his first medical practice in Fayette County, a year later accepting appointment as a 0 surgeon at Harvey, Fayette County. In formal recognition of his long and affectionate association with the Railroad, he was awarded a fifty yead service pin in 1946.

In 1914 he ran successfully for state senator and served a four year term, a Democratic voice, as it were, crying in the wilderness of a Republican senate. During World War he served as chairman of the state's first draft board. Thirty-four years of active practice, complicated by his other acuviues which, incidentally, included coal mine operation, constituted a career; Dr. Hogg decided one day and, to enjoy years were left to him, he retired. That was in 1930, a year after built in a Lewisburg hilltop a large and comfortable home.

That's when his real golf career started. His interest in medicine and in people has not waned. Indeed with the time and the inclination, it has waxed. And today, a so-called retired man, he still works hard, although on a schedule he himself has set. As president of the Greenbrier Valley Bank at Lewisburg, a bank he re-organized solely in the interests of depositors in 1930 and then headed, he knows and the know he can be reached between 9:30 a.m.

Mrs. Hurt explained to the 37 representatives present that the sponsoring firm will select two projects from each state. Prizes range from 52,000 to S5.0UO and should the Beckiey club win the contest the money would be applied to the project selected by the local Community Council. She stated that all 48 states plus Alaska have the contest. Mrs.
