Morton Wagner, who, was in Charleston, Ajax T. Smith sat as special judge in Mercer Criminal Court and disposed of the following cases.

John Henry Kirby, Henry R. Lambert and Allen R. Lambert pleaded guilty to "a charge of attempting to commit rape, and each was probated for 12 months, the rape indictment being nolled. The order allowed the defendants to leave the state. Lottery cases from Bluefield were disposed of.

as follows: Harvey Lee Bailey pleaded guilty to fifth count of indictment charging possession or lottery tickets and ivas fined $200 and no costs. Other indictments nolled. William Carnes pleaded guilty to third count, with two others nolled and was fined $200. Frazier Floyd Dillow pleaded guilty to count one and was fined $200, with two other indictments being.nolled. Gray, president of MERCER COUNTY SOIL CONSERVATION NEWS PRINCETON, Nov. 14 -r- Jack Myers the Southern Soil Conservation Service reports that I. Morgan of Littlesburg has caught over 800 bluegill fish from during the past his' farm pond summer which he estimates to weigh over 260 pounds. Morgan also has "had over 150 ducks of various varieties resting on his pond- this fall. A farm pond has been completed on the- farm of Walter Suddith at Falls Mills.

Approximately 800 feet of diversion terraces are being completed on the C. W. Surface farm at Sanklick. E. K.

Suddith of Brush Fork is clearing a stream channel through his farm and has recently completed approximately 400 feet of open ditch drainage. Myers also reports that snow of last week and the rains of this week have slowed down the forest fires several of which were scattered over the county last week one at Stoney Ridge on the Princeton-Bluefield Road and one in the Brush Fork sction. Myers states that the emergency situation still exists and urges everyone to be careful about matches and cigarettes especially now that the hunt- Ing season has been re-opened. A special leadership pin was presented to Mrs. Cody Shumaker and Mrs. Bessie Wallay og Greenville. Concluding the program a grand maker and Mrs. Bessie Wallace of Marshalene Pence, and refreshments were served to those attending.

LAST RITES HELD FOR RANKIN PRINCETON, Nov. 14 Word has been received here of the death of Rankin A. Todd, 97 in Staunton, Wednesday night, of the in- firmaties of old age. Mr. Todd.

was the of the late Dr. Gordon L. Todd. of Princeton and grandfather of Dr. Gordon Todd Jr, present head of the Memorial Hospital in- Princeton.

Other survivors, in addition to Dr. Todd, are two grand-daughters in Staunton and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Staunton Friday afternoon.
