The station went on the air with a country music format. In 1964, sister station KRST-FM signed on, featuring a "beautiful music" format. Four years later, KRST became the first station in New Mexico and one of the first in the United States to adopt the album-oriented rock format. By 1980, many rock 'n' roll stations were in the metro area. Marketing research indicated Albuquerque was the largest city in the country without an FM stereo country music station, Milligan recalled.

In response to that, KRST joined KRZY as a country music station and has remained one. In addition to the Albuquerque radio stations, Burroughs Broadcasting at one time owned stations in Santa Fe, Farm-ington, Roswell, Portales and Muleshoe, Texas. John Burroughs died in 1978. Over the years the radio stations were sold. KRZY and KRST were the last of Burroughs' radio properties, said Herb March-man, president and chief executive officer of Burroughs Broadcasting.

The corporation is likely to be closed out, he said. A $5.25 million agreement has been concluded to sell Albuquerque country music radio stations KRZY-AM and KRST-FM, it was announced Friday. The two stations, owned by Burroughs Broadcasting are being purchased by Albuquerque-based Wagontrain Broadcasting Corp. Bill Sanders, Wagontrain's president and board chairman, said applications are being made to the Federal Communications Commission for assignment of the radio stations' licenses. FCC review and approval usually take 45 to 60 days.

Sanders said no major changes in either format or personnel are anticipated. Wagontrain Broadcasting is a wholly owned subsidiary of Wagontrain Communications which is the nation's largest radio consulting and program syndication firm. Wagontrain syndicates programming and specials to 600 stations in the United States, 18 stations in Canada and the American Armed Forces Radio Network and U.S. Navy ships at sea. Doug Milligan, general manager of KRZY and KRST, said Burroughs Broadcasting was formed with the 1961 purchase of Man From Moscow WomenJazz Adventure Vietnam Signature jO.

She's talking about Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, who also produces the series about four women who run a decorating business in Atlanta. The show airs at 8:30 p.m. Mondays on KGGM-TV, Channel 13.

"Linda has done more for me in L.A. than anybody," Carter says. "And I think we four ladies have an idiosyncratic ability to interpret her writing." Carter, a daughter of Tennessee whose Southern accent is the real thing, co-stars with Delta Burke, Annie Potts and Jean Smart. "Linda has written four women who are not the way we are in real life," says Carter, who plays Julia Sugarbaker. For example, she says, "I'm just not one for confrontations.

I'll jump around on shifting sands. I've spent a lot of time looking into mirrors and practicing what I'll say the next day. The thrill of Julia is she has the words and lays it on the line." Carter's husband of three years, Hal Holbrook, occasionally plays her boyfriend on the show. "I think the thing about Julia is that she can't stand to be wrong," Carter says. "Just can't stand it.

And in that lies her humanity and humor. You know she's going to get her comeuppance. Hal gives her her comeuppance. He says, 'Julia, you need to be taken out and Carter and Holbrook met in 1981 when they played husband and wife in a TV movie called "The Killing of Randy Webster." "I was so scared of him," she says. "We had a scene in bed together where we receive the news of our son's death.

The director told me to put my head on hi? Dixie Carter Designing woman shoulder. Hal said, 'No, we should be tense and I was so embarrassed. I thought he considered me the most unattractive person in the Western Hemisphere." Eventually they became good frends. "He said he was trying not to notice me," she says. "He was a confirmed hermit and I was, too, in my own way." She has two daughters from a previous marriage, Ginna, 17, and Mary Dixie, 16.

She was married to a financier, also named Carter, and she quit acting for eight years to raise her children. "It was the way I was brought up," she says. "You couldn't work and be a proper mother. I'm not sorry that I did it, but looking back I see that it wasn't necessary." Her daughters both want to be actresses, but Carter discourages them. But, she adds, "They work hard and they're not flighty.

I see they're talented. So, I'm honored. They've seen the financial world in New York and the show business world here." i jsm mm mm mnjmn man wmwmmm Mm QlCountry!
