Born at Greenville, April 12 1903, he was a son of the lat Erastus P. and Effie McCor mick Smith. He was a retired financial secretary for the Monroe County Board of Education for 27 years and was a forme employe of the Bank of Greenville with 13 years of service.

He was a member of the Mount Hedding i Methodist Church at Lillydale. Survivors include his wife Mrs. Catherine Collins Smith two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Sandra) Huffman of Union an Mrs. Donald (Susan) Brown Guatemala Bay, Cuba; two sisters, Mrs.
