At least 12 inches of rain fell Thursday night and Friday in Girard, and 1 1 inches in Pittsburg, where nearly all major roads were closed, the National Weather Service said.

Among many other rivers that spilled over their banks were the Platte River near Platte City, Mo. Flood warnings or watches were posted for large areas of Kansas and Missouri, as well as parts of Illinois and Oklahoma. More heavy rain was expected throughout the evening and into the weekend in Missouri and Kansas. At midday, rain and thunderstorms also were falling in northern Alabama and northwest Texas. Corpus Christi, Texas, warmed to 94 degrees and tied the city's high temperature record for the date.

Lake Charles, reached 93 degrees, tying the high temperature record there for the date. The morning low in the lower 48 states was 14 degrees in Truckee, Calif. until 5:00 p.m. TOBIAS Toby Tobias, age 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1935, died Wednesday, September 22, 1993, in a local hospital. He was born in Mobile, Alabama, May 25, 1916. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Geraldine Tobias; and a son, Damon. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II, was an Air Force Reservist, and owned and operated a photography studio.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for more than 52 years and was active as a church volunteer. Services will be held Monday, 10:00 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 300 Gold Ave. SE, with Pastor Randy Walquist and Pastor Kurt brink, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Pallbearers will be Raymond Milks, Patrick Fullbright, Charles Garza, Luis Quintana, Patrick Maldonadq and Wyatt Moore.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 300 Gold Ave. SE. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Sunday, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.

TORREZ Funeral Services for Mr. Rumaldo Torrez will be held on Saturday, at the San Jose Catholic Church, where the Mass will be celebrated, 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by the Salazar and Sons Mortuary, 400 3rd St SW.

TRUJILLO Funeral Services for Mrs. Aniseta S. Lybrand, Clovis Andrew Marquez, Adela M. Messer, Leon Padilla, Benjamin Roherty, William F. Romero, Gregorita Smith, Florence Mary Tafoya, Paul V. Tobias, Toby Torrez, Rumaldo Trujillo, Aniseta S. Longtime Actor Dies at 96 had worked for the AP since 1989.

He was the news agency's principal reporter in the Congo and Zaire and covered civil unrest and political developments in neighboring central African countries. Born in a Congolese village called Mazi, Massamba was a teacher before going to work for the official Congolese Information Agency in 1983. He also worked for the Portuguese LUSA news agency and the South African radio station Canal Afrique. Massamba is survived by his wife and three children. BACA Eduvigen "Duvie" Baca, 68, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on September 23, 1993.

Mrs. Baca is survived by her husband, Fred of 49 years. Mrs. Baca is also survived by two daughters, Dorothy Gonzales and husband, Albert and Lorraine Bowen and husband, Danny Sr. one son, Fred Baca Jr.

and wife, Sylvia; two sisters, Mary Baca and husband, Eddie Baca Sr. and Louisa Muller; three brothers, Jimmy Tafoya and wife, Rita, Alfredo Tafoya and wife, Annie and Luciano Tafoya; and nine grandchildren. Mrs. Baca was a member of the catholic church. Visitation for Mrs.

Baca will be Sunday evening, after 5:30 p.m., in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Blvd. SW, with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. Final Visitation will be Monday morning, in The Holy Family Church, 561 Atrisco SW, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 10:00 a.m., with Reverend Father Jack Clark Robinson O.F.M., Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mt.

SW, in charge of arrangements; ACA-Jose Rito Baca, 86, a resident of Adelino, New Mexico, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 1993, after a short illness. He was a member of the Tome Catholic Church. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A Rosary was recited Friday, September 24, 1993, at Our Lady Guadelupe Catholic Church, 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, September 25, 1993, in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Richard Padilla, Antonio Espinoza, Randy Valas-quez, Frank Valasquez, John Valasquez and Andy Padilla. Interment will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

All arrangements by the Crestview Funeral Home 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE. ROHERTY William F. "Bill" Roherty, 65, a former longtime resident of Albuquerque; died Wednesday, September 22, 1993, at Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital in Almagonjo, NM. Mr.

Roherty was born February 13, 1928, in Franklin, Massachusetts. He was a World War II Army Veteran. He received is B.S. and M.S. degrees from Marquette University and was a physicist at Sandia National Laboratory for 32 years.

After his retirement in 1983, he moved to Las Cruces. Survivors include his wife, Joy of the family home; a son, John Roherty of CA; five daughters, Barbara Roherty of Albuquerque, Linda Morres-sey of Kansas City, KS, Elizabeth Roherty-Osmun and her husband, Al of Albuquerque, Synthia Roherty of Santa Fe, and Claudia Roherty of Velarde, NM; a step-son, Chris Wollard and his wife, Kim of Las Cruces; a grandson, Justin Duffy of Albuquerque; two granddaughters, Britta and Jenna Wollard of Las Cruces; his mother, Esther Beardsley Roherty of Janesville, WI; a brother, Tom Roherty of Las Cruces; and three sisters, Judy Curtis of Janesville, WI, Jeanne Creek and her husband, Dick of Janesville, WI, and Sally Crabtree and her husband, Dennis of Clearwater, FL. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Natalie Roherty. A Graveside Service will be conducted Saturday, 11 :00 a.m., at Hillcrest Cemetery in Las cruces, with Charlie Welch, officiating. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of their choice.

ROMERO Gregorita Romero, 89, a resident of Albuquerque, and formerly of Veguita, NM, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 1993. She was a member of the San Isidro Catholic Church in Las Nutrias, NM. She was bom on March 13, 1904. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bonifacio, 90, of Albuquerque, and formerly of Veguita, NM; her daughters, Mela Torrez and husband, Charlie of Veguita, NM, Lilly Lopez and husband, Chris of Albuquerque, Bennie Torrez and husband, Alex of Bruch, CO, Eloisa Rogers and husband, James of Brush, CO, Rosa Zuibate and husband, Daniel of Sterling, CO, Elvia Anaya and friend, Manuel Quezasa of Albuquerque; 19 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

There will be a viewing on Frieday, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Romero Funeral Home Chapel, with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, 11 :00 a.m., in Las Nutrias, NM. Interment will follow in the Las Nutrias Cemetery. Romero Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

SMITH Florence Mary Smith, 94, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away peacefully at her residence, Friday morning. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia McDevitt. She is survived by two sons, Oliver Douglas Smith and his wife, Virginia of SC, and Arthur Resse Smith and his wife, Bonnie of Rio Rancho; one daughter, Marilyn Hendrics and her husband, Fred of Fisher, IN numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Services are pending and will be announced by Rio Rancho Funeral Home, 2400 Southern Blvd.

891-9192. TAFOYA Paul V. Tafoya, 72, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, September 22, 1993. He is survived by his sons, Cecil P. Tafoya and wife, Frances, Bill Tafoya and wife, Carta, Ed Tafoya and wife, Carol, Greg Avila and wife, Nancy, all of Albuquerque; daughters, Paula Lucero and husband, Richard, Bonnie Hause, Jody Contreras and husband, Ralph, all of Albuquerque; 12 grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; brother, John Tafoya and wife, Martha of Albuquerque; sister, Mela Gonzales of Los Lunas, NM; and by his wife, Gloria of Albuquerque.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Paul Anthony Tafoya in 1990. Mr. the Kidney Foundation of NM, 1330 San Pedro NE, Suite 103, Albuquerque, 87110. LARSON Services are pending for Voyle Arley Larson, 91, of Moriarty, who passed away September 23, 1993, at his home south of Moriarty. He was bom October 1, 1911, in Moorhead, Iowa, to Frank and Effie Larson.

He married Lois Davis, May 7, 1939, she survives him. Other survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Barbara of Alcoa, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Walter David of Moriarty; son, Bill Larson of Moriarty; daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Gary Brownlee of Granger, WA; daughter, Irma Wolf of Moriarty; sister and brother-in-law, Bertha and Bruce Dean of Moriarty brother and sister-in-law, Merrill and Frances Larson also of Moriarty; 12 grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren. She was employed by Carroll Elementary School. Mrs. Marquez is survived by her mother, Lucarita Lovato; her husband, Joe A. Marquez of the family home; two daughters, Judy Marquez of the family home and Roseann R. and husband, Mathew J.

Iversen of CA; one son, Matthew Marquez of Bernalillo; and one granddaughter, Ashley Marquez. MESSER Leon Messer, 68, bom in Texas, lived in Cuba, New Mexico for 41 years, dies of natural causes in his home in Los Lunas, New Mexico, on September 22, 1993.

He leaves behind a wife of 39 years, Emily Messer of Cuba, NM; six daughters and one son, Elaine Pettet of Lubbock, TX, Pat Messer of San Francisco, CA, Anna Messer of Cuba, NM, Bulinda Wiese of Delta, CO, Roberta Burson and husband, Randy of Los Lunas, Sam Bruno of Albuquerque, and Michael Messer of Albuquerque. He had seven granddaughters; two grandsons; and five great-granddaughters. He was a veteran of WWII, USMC, and a two time recipient of the Purple Heart. Visitations will be Sunday, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and the family will be receiving friends, from 6:00 p.m.

F.S.P. PADILLA Benjamin Padilla, age 84, passed away September 23, 1993, at a local nursing home. Mr. Padilla was a Coal Miner in Sugarite, New Mexico, and later owned Padilla Home supply. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tillie Lopez Coal SE, in charge of arrangements.

CASTILLO Felicitas Castillo, age 89, passed away September 21, 1993. A Rosary was recited Thursday, September 23, 1993, at the Cresrview Funeral Home Chapel, 7:00 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Friday, September 24, 1993, in the Holy Ghost Parish, 10:30 a.m., with Fr. COMPTON Vernon Dale Compton, 56, a 54 year resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, September 21, 1993, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is survived by his father, K.D. Compton of Albuquerque; brothers, Don Compton of Albuquerque, and Gary Compton of Houston, TX; and sisters, Betty Joe Jones of Tulsa, OK, and Clairena Redfearn of Anchorage, AK.

Mr. Compton was a lifelong member of the First Family Church. He served many during his life through a ministry of helps. He also served on the staffs of Teen Challenge in New York City, and Shalom Ministries in Santa Fe. He conducted a Bible study for inmates in the penitentiary in Santa Fe for several years.

He was known as a father to the fatherless and a friend to the friendless through his one-on-one ministry. Services will be held Sunday, 2:30 p.m., at First Family Church, 4701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Rev. Galen Woodward, Re. R.

HATCHELL Melvin Hatchell, 82, a-resident of Albuquerque since 1940, died Thursday, September 23, 1993. Mr. Hatchell was bom December 7, 1910, in Cordell, Oklahoma. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He retired from Albuquerque Gravel Productions in 1976. Services will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to PARIS Fernand Ledoux, a celebrated actor with one of the longest careers in French theater and cinema, has died at 96. Ledoux died at his home in Viller-ville, in Normandy's Calvados region, where he had lived for some 40 years. With more than 800 plays and movies to his credit, Ledoux was among the country's most prolific actors, playing in movies directed by such greats as Jean Renoir and Marcel Carne.

Born in Tirlemont, Belgium, on Jan. 24, 1897, of a Belgian father and French mother, Ledoux studied for the priesthood before turning to the theater, starting by entertaining soldiers during World War I. He attended France's National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in 1919 before entering the Comedie Francaise in 1921. Thereafter, he juggled teaching, theater and films. Among his most illustrious interpretations were Moliere's "Tar-tuffe," Pirandello's "Chacun sa Ver-ite" (To Each His Truth) and Francois Mauriac's "Asmodee." His first major film role came in 1938, in Jean Renoir's "La Bete Humaine" (The Human Beast).

Ledoux's last film role was in Henri Verneuil's "Mille Milliards de Dollars" (A Trillion Dollars) in 1982. He played in a modern version of "Les Miserables," directed by Robert Hossein, until 1983. Armand Massamba BRAZZAVILLE, Congo Armand Bernard Massamba, a journalist who covered the Congo and Zaire for The Associated Press, died Tuesday after a stroke. He was SO. Massamba, who died at University Center Hospital in Brazzaville, was a well known farmer throughout the valley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Teofilo and Theresa Baca. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Esidora of Adelino, NM; three sons, Jose Ramon of Adelino, NM, Gomicindo and wife, Rhonda of Albuquerque, and Teofilo of Arlington, VA; two daughters, Mary Ann Baca of Albuquerque, and Rita C. Baca of Adelino, NM; and one grandson, Joseph Andrew Baca of Arlington, VA. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Jose also leaves behind many dear friends.

She is survived by her husband, Fermin Benavidez; two daughters, Anna Benavidez and Juanita Vigil; one son, Frank Benavidez; four grandchildren, Frankie Benavidez, Joseph Benavidez, Rosalie Ogden and Ronald G. Benavidez; and eight great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Margarito Benavidez of Alamogordo, NM; and miiny nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Leopoldo Ortega, William Ortega, Antonio Ortega, Felix Ortega and Jose 1 Ortega.
