BECKLEY City Avenue Dispute Settled, Building Being Removed; May Widen Underpass The controversial City Avenue property squabble between the city of Beckley and the W. G. Stevens property owners was finally settled and work on the removal of the portions of the which the city maintained encroached on the right of way started yesterday. The owners agreed to remove the portions of the offending building and the city in turn agreed to pay $750 for a triangle containing proximately 125 square feet at the intersection of City and S. Oakwood Avenues.

The city also will deed a portion of land behind the American Glass and Mirrow Company building to Stevens. In making the announcement, Mayor George B. Chambers said the city intended to use the triangle acquired to make a larger turning space between City Oakwood Avenues, He also said the city was planning to approach the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway in an attempt to widen the underpass Beckley-Mabscott boundry. The annual Bike Safety Parade is being sponsored by Montgomery Ward and Company and Beckley Newspapers Corporation. Cyclists will begin the parade of elaborately decorated bicycles in back of the Monigomery Ward store at Beckley Place and from there they will travel to NevilleHeber-Prince-Kanawha, and Main streets. Prizes will be awarded the riders of the best and most originally decorated bikes, after the parade ends at the store. Judging the bike decorations will be the Rev. Everett R.

Shafer, Sam Raborn, and Robert C. Byrd: The judges also will speak on need for safe bicycle riding in Beckley and throughout Raleigh County. George Piper, store manager and chairman of the Bike Safety Campaign said today, "We expect thousands to line the parade route to watch the greatest bike parade Beckley has ever seen.
