NEW MEXICO the TV Beth "is more of a wise-cracker." Beth will be played by DeLane Matthews, who starred in the short-lived "Laurie Hill" sitcom Pav For Two. Albuquerque television station KOAT-TV, Channel 7, has assumed control of KVIO-TV in Carlsbad in a $1.75 million sale. The Federal Communications Commission has further granted approval to change KVIO's call letters to KOCT. KVIO had been a satellite station of the ABC affiliate in El Paso.

As KOCT, the station will now receive its ABC programming from KOAT and local inserts from KOAT's southeast news bureau in Roswell. The change became effective at midnight Thursday. The purchase of the station, from Marsh Media of El Paso, follows the establishment of KOAT's Roswell bureau in August 1991. That bureau originates newscasts at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. weekdays.

With the addition of KOCT, the signal from KOAT and inserts from the Roswell bureau will be extended over the air on Channel 6 in the Artesia and Carlsbad areas. KOAT will continue to be available on cable systems in Roswell, Hobbs, Carlsbad, Artesia and Lovington, and on KOAT translators in Roswell, Hobbs and Capitan. KOAT, which is owned by Pulitzer Broadcasting began broadcasting on Channel 7 in Albuquerque in 1953. The station is currently available on 82 translators and more than 80 cable systems in New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado. It is also seen on KOVT-TV, Channel 10, in Silver City.
