Ex-Mercer Man Dies In Hospital PRINCETON (RNS) Damon Hight, 48, of Muncie, died of Princeton, Wednesday in a Muncie bospital after a long illness. Born at Lerona, Oct. 17, 1918, he was and a son a of the late Julius Ettie Wylie. Higbt. the had lived Muncie for Survivors include his wife, Sweeney Hight; five sisters, Mrs.

W. J. Williams of Takoma, Mrs. H. G.

Martin of Mrs. Vinnie Hite and Mrs. Eugene McKenzie, both of Bluefield and Mrs. Basil of Princeton, and five brothers, J. Athens, Troy of Detroit, Samuel of Rich Creek, Orlin in Intersession, City, and Aubrey of Lerona.

The body is at Seaver Mortuary in Princeton where friends may call after 4 p.m. today. Arrangements are incomplete. Garland E. Succumbs At 57 PRINCETON (RNS) Garland E.

Roten, 57, of Pine Street died in a Beckley hospital Wednesday after a short illness. He was by the Princeton pimployed and a member of the Men's Interdenominatioual Bible Class and Farmer Robertson Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Roten was a veteran of World War II and had lived in Princeton for 20 years. Born July 4, 1909, at Tazewell, he was a son of the late George and Maggie Perry Roten. Survivors include three sisters and four brothers.

Youths Arrested MAN (RNS) Two Triadelphia District youths were arrested over the weekend and booked at the Logan County jail on charges of car larceny and breaking and entering. Chester Arthur Morgan, 18, of Becco. was apprehended about p.m. Saturday and Virgil Block, 17, of Robinette was arrested Sunday. Trooper W.

M. Garrett ar. rested the youths in connection with the theft of an automobile the Proctor Hollow area and the breaking and entering of the Becco Pool room. The car was taken Friday night and later was found wrecked on Soverign Hollow Road. Ames Heights News AMES HEIGHTS (RNS) Mrs.

Youth Is Injured LOGAN (RNS) A 16-yearold Mount Gay youth, Plumley, was treated and released Sunday night at Guyan Valley Hospital for injuries received when his bicycle was struck by an automobile.

1, 1876, in Alexandria, he was a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Chauncey Johnson. the Maidenform Company at! He was a retired, employe of Princeton and was member of the Methodist Church and Princeton Old Guard. Johnson had lived in Princeton for 50 years. His wife, Minnie W. Johnson, died in 1963.

Negro Appointed Logan County Deputy Sheriff LOGAN (RNS) An Omar man, James Major, made political history in Logan County Monday by being the first Negro ever to hold a position as deputy sheriff. Major was one of four new appointments submitted to the County Court for approval. Sheriff William J.

(Bill) Abraham also selected former jailer Cush Dingess as the chief deputy and appointed Silas Easterling! of Sarah Ann as a replacement for Dingess. Everett Steel, also of Omar, was selected as deputy jailer and will be assigned to the jail to the tax department office whenever the load warrants additional assistance. Steel is a former credit manager for the Junior Mercantile Stores in Omar. C. K. (Ada Baber) Sparks, 82, of Persinger died Tuesday in a Richwood hospital after a long illness. She was a former Nicholas County, school teacher, a Summersville gradNormal School, a former cooperator Sparks Store Co. and post office at Persinger and a member of the Bennett Memorial Methodist Church.

Survivors include one SOD, Blaine, of Lonpoc, three daughters, Mrs. 'Camilla Morton and Mrs. Agnes Herbert, both of Summerville, and Mrs. Lucille Sharper of Baltimore, two brothers, J. Lewis of Hillsboro and Ralston G.

Baber of Miami, two sisters, Mrs, Cora McClung of Moose Haven, and Mrs. Ella Baber of South Charleston; six grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. today in the Howard White Funeral Home at Summersville with Rev.

Verlin Butcher and Rev. Charles Pugh in charge. Burial will be in the Sparks Family Cemetery at Persinger. Mellie Edwards Taken By Death ALDERSON (RNS) Mellie Edwards, 75, of Alderson died in a Beckley hospital at 2 a.m. Wednesday after a long illness.

Born at Rudkins, June 7, 11892, he was a son of the late Simuel and Florence Jarvis Edwards. He was a retired employe of the Greenbrier Valley Hotel, an ordained Baptist and a veteran of World War I. Survivors include his wife, Ida M. Edwards, at home; one foster son, Leroy Edwards of Washington, D. two stepsons, Forest and Glenn Flannagan, both of Craigsville; two stepdaughters, Mrs.

Nute Plummer of Fort Clinton, Ohio and Mrs. Charles Cecil of Cradhay, one brother, James of Lewisburg, and two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Foster of White Sulphur Springs and Mrs. Elsie Anderson of Sutton. Services will be held at 11.

a.m. Saturday in the Great Emanuel Holiness Church at Alderson with Elder Alfreda Goforth, Rev. Nathaniel Johnson and Rev. Lewis Hatfield in charge. Burial will be in the Trail's End Cemetery at Clintonville.

Military rites will be performed at graveside. The body is at the Lobban Funeral Home in Alderson and will be taken to the home today and to the church one hour prior to services. Members of the Men's Neighborhood will serve as pallbearers. Funeral Set Friday For Jennifer Liddle COVEL (RNS) Jennifer Lynn Liddle, two and one-halfdaughter of Everette and Shelby Lilly died en Bluefield" Wednesday. Death was attributed pneumonia.

Other survivors include three sisters, Lenore, Pamela, and Valerie, all at home, and the Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Liddle of Hurricane and Mr.

and Mrs. Hubert Lilly of Tralee. The funeral will be held a. m. Friday in the Bailey Fuperal Home Chapel with Rev.

Lonnie Blankenship in charge. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after noon today. Mrs. E.

Johnson's Funeral Set Today ALDERSON (RNS) Funeral services for Mrs. Ella K. Johnson, 83, of Alderson will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church with Dr. Eugene Modlin in charge.

Burial will be in the family cemetery near Palestine. Mrs. Johnson died in a Ronceverte hospital Tuesday afternoon after a long illness. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The body is at the Lobban Funeral Home at Alderson and will be taken to the church one hour prior to serviecs.

Aids Area Flood Victims MINDEN Charles director of the Fayette Needy Association at Minden, reported Tuesday that Del Sanders, driver for the Salvation Army at Logan, arrived at the FNA home from Logan County for a pick-up for flood victims in the Logan area. Director DePugh noted that 3,732 pieces of clothing and an estimated 2,500 pairs of shoes were sent to Logan County flood victims. Other counties desiring clothling for flood victims should contact the association where much clothing still is available for eligible persons.
