Game 1 of the championship between the Chicago Bulls and the Utah Jazz attracted an average of 24.7 million viewers Sunday and was the most-watched program on TV last week, according to figures released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research. Michael Jordan's last-second shot won the game for the Bulls, and the game helped NBC win the weekly crown. CBS' coverage of the Tonys, by contrast, had an average audience of about 13 million. The telecast garnered its best household ratings since 1987 and was up 81 in terms of the 25-to-54-year-old viewers who watched.

And if that wasn't up to NBA standards, it was still well ahead of hockey. Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Saturday had an average audience of about 6.4 million and finished 75th among the week's 107 prime-time network programs. Even so, Fox said that it was the highest-rated Stanley Cup game on any network since May 1980.
