Sept. 25 CP) Lefty Gomez had his first bad inning in over a month Saturday, but he recovered from it immediately and had little trouble pitching the Y'ankees to a 5 to 2 victory over the Boston Red Sox, for his 21st win of the season The Sox tagged Lfty for four hits and both their runs in the first inning, ending the southpaw star's 24th consecutive shutout inning streak. But Lefty tightened up with the start of the second and blanked the Bostons with one hit the rest ofthe way, to post his fifth win in a row. Meantime, the Yanks, paced by Joe DiMaggio with three hits, and Lefty, himself, with two, clubbbed Lefty Grove, Mike Gonzales and Rube Walberg for a total of 13 hits, bunching them when they meant runs. Renfro carried the ball over the (nn Ww Mexico's touchdowns, the first coming iaie, in the first half and the last tally in the fourth quarter. The Lobos extra-point artist, Pete Fellis, came through with two beautiful kicks for the points. Testing the revised 1937 line up of the Lobos for the first time, Coach Ted Shipkey proteges outplayed their southern visitors in mid-field, but the stonewall goal-line defense of the Mustangs kept New Mexico from scoring on several occasions. Proclaimed the hero of the day, Renfro is the third of three brothers who have starred on Lobo teams. Charlie Renfro was a star 10 years ago for the Hilltop squad.

He was the kicking and blocking star of that team. He is now assistant coach at Albuquerque High School. Shortly after the close of his career, Everett, the first boy in the Renfro family to be nick named "Beans," played on Coach Roy Johnson's final Lobo team. 35-Yard Run With only two minutes to play in the first half, Tom Gibson, Lobo quarterback, lateraled to Renfro, who made a beautiful 35-yard run around left end for the first tally. Fellis, not a regular but who is always sent in because of his ability to kick the point, put the ball over the cross bar for the extra point.

The hair ended 7-0. The Mustangs held New Mexico through the third quarter, but the Lobos began a deadly drive down the gridiron in the fourth, making three first downs which climaxed in the second score. In scoring position, Renfro was given the ball. With excellent hlockine to aid him, he smashed through the center of the line for the score. Fellis again seni me ball between the posts for the final point, making the score 14-0.

Lobo Is Hurt Marlon Niemants, star fullback who was brought here by Shipkey, was hurt in the last play of the game when he was kicked in the head as he made the tackle. X-rays taken immediately after the game showed that he did not suffer a broken jaw, as was first believed. After the first score in the second period, Shipkey sent in a complete new lineup. The second squad showed up surprisingly well, but was taken out at the beginning of the fourth quarter The University's passing attack in the first half was weak, com pletir.g only two passes. Constantly threatening for the first two periods, the Lobos came within three yards of the paying stripe; but in their enthusiasm to score, the backheld was caught in motion and penalized five yards.

Niemants attempted two parses, both fell incomplete. Charles SI. John, Mustang halfback, puntcl out of danger as the Teachers took the ball on downs. The game was a test of the Notre Dame system of play as taught by Coach Ray Brancheau and the Warner type, which Ship-kev uses. rarrvintr the burden of the wni-k for the Teachers, Joe Davis, 0.
