School Gets Grant For Two Fellowships The School of American Research in Santa Fe has received a $43,550 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for two fellowships in advanced scholarly research.

The fellowships, open to Ph.Ds and doctoral candidates who have completed field work, include housing, a monthly stipend and a private study. Construction Begins On Memorial Center Construction has begun on the visitor's center at the DAV Vietnam Veterans National Memorial in Angel Fire and is expected to be completed by next Memorial Day, when formal dedication ceremonies are planned. The $700,000 structure will make the entire facility accessible to disabled visitors and includes a lobby and information area, audiovisual facilities, office space, conference room and apartment for memorial found and resident director Dr. Victor Westphall. The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) supports the shrine built in 1971 by the Westphall family.

Carrizozo Fun Days Set for Mid-October The second annual Carrizozo Fun Days has been set for Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13-14, in Spencer Park in Carrizozo. Hot air balloon rides at 8 a.m. Saturday will open the festivities, followed by a parade, horsehoe, softball and golf tournaments and a free barbecue at noon. Also featured are arts and crafts and antiques exhibitions.
