Baker Louis if. Baker, 73, died Sunday, -Sept.

19, 1999, at IU Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Greenwood and a for-; mer resident of Flora. He was born Aug. 14, 1926, in South Bend. His parents were Jacob E.

and Jenny (Long) Baker. He married Ruth (Tyner) Baker on Nov. 11, 1945, in North Manchester. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Bob Baker of Kissimmee, a daughter, Nancy Lewark of Greenwood; a sister, Winifred Landis of Phoenix, and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister. He was employed by Carroll High School as a math teacher and served as a coach for track, cross country and JV basketball. He was also employed by Pratt-Whitney as a mathematician. He was a member of Flora United Methodist Church, Flora Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Clarence Wiles American Legion, NFA and Indiana Retired Teachers Association. He was a U.S.

Army Air Corps veteran. The Rev. Larry DeVos will conduct a service at 11 a.m. today at Flora United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora.

Albert "Paul" Terhune 77, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at his residence in New Whiteland. He was born July 4, 1922. His parents were John M. and Hattie (Neils) Terhune.

He married Viola F. Terhune on Dec. 25, 1946, in Indianapolis. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Albert P.

Terhune Jr. of Indianapolis; a stepson, Donald D. Fischer of Beech Grove; a daughter, Judy C. Terhune of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and five sisters.

He was employed by Amtrak as a power house operator for 30 years, retiring in 1975. He was also employed by Village Flower Shop as a deliveryman for eight years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. A service will be conducted at 1 p.m.

Thursday at Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home, State Road 135 Chapel. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in White River Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. FRANKLIN Elizabeth 'Betty' Click Voland Health Center in Franklin. "Betty taught everybody, and their kids, and their kids' kids," said Jack her attorney. "She said, 'I'm either going to raise kids or teach kids." Voland, he Franklin Simon Charles Capek, 88 Eric A. Survivors include a sister, Katherine Crafton of Fairland; three nieces; and a nephew. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Johnson. She was employed by Western Electric as a factory worker for 20 years, retiring in 1971. The Rev. Cliff Bunch will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m.

Thursday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. GREENWOOD Cora Lillian (Riedeman) Robbins Cora Lillian (Riedeman) Robbins, 82, died Monday, Sept.

20, 1999, at Regency Place Health Care Center. She was a resident of Greenwood and a former resident of Indianapolis. She was born April 4, 1917, in' Oldenburg. Her parents were Leonard A. and Elizabeth (Steinmetz) Riedeman.

She married Harry Robbins. He preceded LiiT in death. Survivors include two brothers, Bernard and John Riedeman, both of Indianapolis; two sisters, Aileen Beever and Eunice Carrico, both of Indianapolis; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Hollcraft; and a sis VOLAND Dairy for 26 yars, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Fountain- town Christian Church and Ameri can Legion 102 in Morristown.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. The Rev. Mike Smith will conduct a service, at 10 a.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn Wilson St.

INDIANAPOLIS Mark D. Wilson Mark D. Wilson, 39, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, on State Road .231 in Owen County from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was a resident of Indianapolis.

He was born April 12, 1960, in Beech Grove. His parents are Richard L. and Judith (Weddle) Cook of Indianapolis. Survivors include two brothers, Randall S. Cook of Indianapolis and Robbin B.

Cook of California; a sister, Diane L. Wilson of Indianapolis; and paternal grandmother, Garnett Cook of Clearwater, Fla. He received his GED from Perry Meridian High School. He was self-employed in the lawn maintenance business. A service will be conducted at 3 p.m.

Thursday at Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre State Road 135 Chapel. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in White River Township. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association. Students spent half the day in school and half the, day working at local restaurants and fast-food places. She would visit the kids on the job, Heck said, and interact with their supervisors. "Since she didn't have any kids, it was like everybody in Franklin was her kids," Heck said. "She has been given a lot of credit for keeping kids in school who might have dropped out. "She had very high standards, and she was very strict." William Breck, a former Franklin High School principal, agreed.

"She expected a lot of kids," he said. "Maybe they didn't appreciate it then, but they probably do now." Dick Tudor of Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home said he was once a target of Voland's discipline He remembered Voland from his high school days at Center Grove. Voland watched over a study hall in which Tudor was a student. Tudor said he could recall Voland's voice to this day, saying, "Dick Tudor, sit down and shut Voland not only disciplined and taught Tudor, but she also instructed his stepmother at Hope. Tudor's stepmother later taught with Voland at Center Grove "She was a dedicated teacher," Tudor said.

Breck said Voland was devoted to both the school and the community. "She was at the building probably seven days a week," he said. Many of her friends and former students remembered her, as a dynamic woman. "She was always very pleasant, and very cheerful," Breck said. FRANKLIN Simon Charles Capek Simon Charles Capek, 88, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Franklin said, dedicated her life to teaching. A 1933 Purdue graduate, Voland began her teaching career in Hope in 1934. She moved in 1938 to Nashville, where she taught until 1943. In 1943, she moved to Center Grove High School, where she taught for a decade before moving to Franklin High School in 1953.

She instructed Franklin students in home economics from 1953 until 1983, eventually advancing to chairwoman of the home economics department. Mona Heck now. occupies Voland's old post, but it is now the Family and Consumer Sciences Department. "I taught with her for 15 years," Heck said. "She started me out: when I was fresh from college She took me under her wing." Voland was probably best known for her food classes, Heck She was a wizard with yeast rolls, but it was Voland's strawberry quick bread that Heck remembered most.

Others may recall Voland moving through the halls carrying her class materials in a cardboard box, whistling as she moved from classroom to classroom. Heck said. Voland's. influence extended beyond the high school. She was active in 4-H and came to know was a resident of Franklin and a former resident of Clinton.

He was born March 31, 1911, in Clinton. His parents were Simon and Anna (Hlatko) Capek. He married Catherine Marcella (Dedinsky) Capek on Aug. 19, 1933, in Whiting. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Carol Kalstrup of Columbus; three grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Miller. He was a retired postal worker. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin and the Knights of Columbus.

The Rev. Paul Shikany will conduct a memorial Mass at 11 a.m. Friday at' St. Rose1 of Lima Catholic Church. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m.

until service time Friday at the church. Private inurnment will be conducted Saturday at the Old Riverside Cemetery in Clinton. Myers Funeral Service, Reed Jewell Chapel is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church Building Fund.

NEW WHITELAND Monica Janine Conner Monica Janine Conner, 53, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at her residence in New Whiteland. Survivors include her husband, Carl "Zeb" Conner. Burial will be at Holy Family Cemetery in Oldenburg. INDIANAPOLIS Faylene Smith Faylene Smith, .74, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Community Hospital South. She was a resident of Indianapolis. She was born April 15, 1925, in Union Hill, Tenn.

Her parents were Alexander and Myrtle (Turner) Birdwell. She married Elmer Ray Smith on Feb. 13, 1946, in Celina, Tenn. He preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Garry M.

and Larry R. Smith, both of Indianapolis; two brothers, Amos and Russell Birdwell, both of Columbus; five grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild. She was employed by Indianapolis Paper Container for 18 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of West Newton Church of Christ. The Rev.

James Thompson will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Thursday at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home. i Elizabeth "Betty" Glick Voland, 88, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at Todd-Aikens Health Center in Franklin.

She was a resident of Franklin since 1936. She was born Oct. 29, 1910, in Columbus. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs.

Edwin Glick. She married James A. Voland. He preceded her in death July 9, 1996. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Doris Crouch of Columbus; a brother-in-law, Dennis Lane; and two nephews, James J.

Crouch of Houston, Texas, and Joseph Wright, of Bethesda, Md. was a 1928 graduate of the, Columbus school system and a 1933 graduate of Purdue University. She was employed from 1953 to 1983 by Franklin Community School Corp. as a -teacher. She previously taught at Clifford, Hope and Center Grove.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Franklin, where she was active in charitable programs. She was also active in 4-H programs and was a member of Tri Kappa. The Rev. Peter Jessen will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Thursday at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin.

Whittington John G. Whittington, 64, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C. He was a resident of Indianapolis. He was born July 30, 1935, in Fountain County.

His parents were Everett and Delia Wade Whittington. He married Lois Ann (Trostle) Whittington on Dec. 6, 1979, in Indianapolis. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Johnny Whittington of Indiana-, polis, Doug Whittington of Charlotte, N.C, and Mike Arnold of Seymour; seven daughters, Debbie McGlauchlen of Mooresville, Kim Dicus, Brandi Miller and Sandy Burns, all of Beech Grove, Cynthia Moore of Speedway, Beverly Miller of Indianapolis and Lisa Santos of Houston, Texas; a brother, James Whittington of Indianapolis; five sisters, Mary Sorrell and Marilyn Rohrman, both of Greenfield, Virginia Pierson and Helen Stanley, both of Indianapolis, and Alice Palmer of Freeport; 16 grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren.

He was p- in death by two brothers anu a sister. He was employed by Kroger FRANKLIN Eric A. David Eric A. David, 28, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at Atterbury Fish and Wildlife Area.

He was a resident of Franklin. He was born Jan. 31, 1971, in Johnson County. His father is x4 Phillip E. David of Whiteland.

GREENWOOD Keith L. Strong Keith L. Strong, 39, died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, at Community Hospital South. He was a resident of Greenwood.

He was born Oct. 13, 1959, in Beech Grove He married Mickie L. (Nichols) Strong. She survives. Other survivors include four daughters, Jennifer Lynn Strong and Ashley Nicole Strong, both of Oceanside, and Staci Marie Strong and Desiree Elizabeth Strong, both of Indianapolis; one sister, Sindy L.

Strong Baxter of Reelsville; and his mother. He was a self-employed con sne survives, umer survivors include his stepmother, Sharon K. David of Whiteland; three sisters, Jessica L. and Denise D. David, both of Franklin, and Christine M.

Watkins of Edinburgh; two brothers, Phillip E. David II of Virginia and Travis C. David of Whiteland; and a grandmother, Leona Jones of Prince's Lake. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Allen David. He was a 1990 graduate of Indian Creek High School.

He was employed by Indiana Masonic Home. He was a member of First Christ Fellowship Church in Whiteland and Promise He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1990 to 1997. The Rev. Mike Hoke will conduct a service at 11 a.m.
