He showed his punting skill in the closing seconds of the second period when he punted 63 yards to the Tar Heel seven. Again in the third, he kicked 52 yards into the Tar Heel end zone and added a 45-yarder in the fourth period. The sophomore kicking performance came after Maryland and North Carolina swapped offsetting touchdowns in the first two and a half minutes of play The Tarheels got their score when Jamie Franklin fumbled on the first play from scrimmage and Bobby Trott recovered for the Tarheels on the Maryland 24.

Three plays later quarterback Billy Paschall passed 20 yards to Charlie Williams for the score. (AP) Maryland combined the nifty passing of quarterback Larry Dick and the talented place kicking Mike Sochko to run up a 34-7 victory over North Carolina in an Atlantic Coast Conference football game yesterday. Dick passed 49 yards to Kim Hoover in the third period for an insurance touchdown after Sochko had put the Terrapins out front with boots of 38 and 49 yards. Sochko put Maryland ahead 10-7 late in the first quarter with his 38-yard kick. He applied the 49-yard-er for good measure in the second period as the ball barely cleared the goal. Junior Tim Wilson, a graduate of De La Warr High near Wilmington, scored the final Maryland touchdown on a plunge from the one.

Cheyney romps, 26-6 CHEYNEY, Pa. (AP)-Abel Joe ran for two touchdowns as Cheyney State defeated Seton Hall 26-6 yesterday. Cheyney scored twice in the fourth quarter on a 48-yard run by Hurst and a two-yard run by Joe, who picked up 119 yards in 24 carries for the afternoon. Jagiello hit Tom Peno with a five-yard TD pass with 2:42 to play, then coupled with Harold Anderson on a 76-yard strike with 76 seconds left. The junior quarterback completed 12 of 24 passes for 181 yards. West Chester took an early 9-0 lead on Don Herbst's 58-yard scoring run and Steve Cook's 27-yard field goal.
