Three blocked and deflected extra point attempts by the visitors provided the narrow difference for the Lobos two touchdown favorites over the league cellar-dwellers. Carlsbad's brilliant 155-pound T-quarterback Jim Bowen kept New Mexico In hot water throughout, completlnr 11 of 21 passes for 189 yards and one touchdown. Ai predicted, the two rivals followed their pre-game "grudge" pattern, the rugged UNM forward wall claiming six DU gridders via injuries including Bowen and another ex-Carlsbad star.

31 (INS)-International League President Frank Shaughnessy suggested to day expansion of the major baseball leagues into two 12-team circuits under an orderly plan which he said would "take the pressure off the minors." Shaughnessy, who submitted his plan to the presidents of the Na tional and American leagues, said that each circuit would be divided into east and west sections. The sectional winners would meet in a late September play-off and the two league winners then would play in the World Series. Shaughnessy, whose idea for the "Shaughnessy play-offs" is credited with saving the minors during the depression, believes the sec tional play-offs would excite interest in late September when at tendance usually drops, and also would increase competition. LITTLE ROCK. Oct. 31 (Jf) Dazzling Lamar McHan marshalled Arkansas' single wing power to its greatest heights tonight as the Razorbacks stampeded a favored Texas football team 41-14. The gifted seniqr tailback ran for two touchdowns, passed for two more and kicked four extra points in less than three quarters as Arkansas surpassed its entire point-production for five previous games. McHan, completing 11 of 13 passes for 184 yards and rushing for 73 more yards, completely outclassed the Aggies' Don Ellis in their duel for the Southwest Conference's individual total offense leadership.

McHan went into tonight's affray trailing Ellis by five yards and cama out in front by about loo. Louisiana Slate BATON ROUGE, La- Oct. 31 UP) Mississippi, piloted by long range bombers Lea Paslay and Houston Patton, blasted a wild-running Louisiana State University from the unbeaten football ranks tonight with a 27-16 victory. The two quarterbacks took advantage of LSU's main weakness, a porous pass defense, with incredibly long aerials that ate up nearly 300 yards, accounting for one touchdown and setting up three more. The first Eastern score was carried over by Bill Engman off tackle from the Highlands 14. Engman kicked the conversion.

Midway tn the second, jerry Poole carried over from the Highlands seven off right tackle. Ronnie Holcomb kicked the conversion. In the waining second. Topp snatch ed the ball from between two de fense men on the Penn 40-yard line, wheeled, and scored going away from a field of pursuers. The clay brought the crowd of 57,655 fans to its feet and led to Michigan's fifth victory in six games this season. End John Wilson hauled down the 10-yard toss deep in a corner of the Indiana end zone early in the third quarter and spoiled the day for a Hoosier homecoming crowd of about 22,000 persons. It was the fourth victory in seven starts for the Big Seven team and Indiana's fifth defeat in six games. The teams never had met before. 31 (T) Capitan's Tigers wound up their third consecutive undefeated football season here today as they broke up first-period tie and defeated Ruidoso, 19-7 in the last scheduled game of the season. smiling Titchenal, who got his walking papers last spring muui coaching shakeup. Mahaffey, who was the leading scorer in the Skyline Conference a5t muu Period after being tackled savage- ly bv White. Mahaffey gained 12 yards on seven carries. Only Bowen was effective against I'NM. The 155-pound quarterback completed 11 of 21 passes for 189 yards and one touchdown.

Bowen left in the final period when he waa shaken by Morgan. Tesone, whose running had been a bit of a headache to the Lobos, was carried off the field in the fourth quarter and taken to the University infirmary, where it was learned that two of his ribs were broken. The referees played almost as nam as tne teams auring tne first quarter as they paced off 80 yards in penalties. The Lobos were docked 30 and the Pioneers 50. On one occasion Denver had second down and 40 yards to go for a first down.

One of the most spectacular plays in the game occurred when Jack Eaton, a 6-4 Lobo tackle, practically carried quarterback Rusty Fairly for an 18-yard loss. At times the Lobos looked just like the old good-defense, no offense outfit they were in the early part of the season. UNM only seemed to go places when Bobby Lee was in the line-up. Panhandle Aggies jTJjDmp Amona State GOOD WELL, Oct. 31 (JP) The powerful Panhandle Aggies ran up a 26-point lead today then coasted to a 26-21 victory over Arizona State to win their first New Mexico Conference football title in school history.

The Aggies moved almost at will the first three quarters, scoring on two short line jabs by Tom Schaef, a 21 -yard end run by Bobby Kramer and Claude Archer's five-yard dash, set up by Jack Andrew's pass interception.
