The station will also hold an open house from 1-3 p.m., featuring cultural exhibits and native dress provided by UNM women students from Yugoslavia, China, Senegal, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Norway, England and Indonesia. Jones Intercable is bringing a live version of the Nickelodeon program "Double Dare" to Tingley Coliseum on March 13, for the "Double Dare Live Tour." Kids and parents will get an opportunity to participate in the fun, though messy, program during a 90-minute show emceed by "Double Dare" hosts Marc Summers and Robin Marella.

The show will consist of audience questions, physical challenges and a full re-creation of the game show, complete with the infamous obstacle course and prizes. Lee Enterprises the parent company that owns Albuquerque television station KRQE-TV, Channel 13, has purchased KZIA-TV in Las Cruces. KRQE general manager Jim Thompson confirmed the Federal Communications Commission has approved the sale.

He said he didn't know how much the sale price was, but he noted KZIA had filed for Chapter 11 reorganization under the U.S. bankruptcy code. KZIA, which currently broadcasts on Channel 48, is an independent station considered part of the El Paso television market. It does, however, broadcast the newscasts of KOB-TV, Channel 4. Thompson, who has also been named general manager of KZIA, said he expects the Las Cruces station to begin carrying KRQE's newscasts within 90 days.

Ultimately, he said, "our long-term plans call for local origination of news in Las Cruces." "We became interested in KZIA after learing it was available TnflV? te Las Cruces market, which is the second largest city in New Mexico, is going to continue growing even more and faster in the future," Thompson said. "We think it's been an undei served area in the past, as far as New Mexico television is concerned, because it's been part "5 1 A of the El Paso market." Thompson said KRQE will also feed KZIA special sports programming and public service programming. There are no plans to change the call letters or make major personnel changes at this time, he said. KZIA has been operated by Southwestern Broadcasting of Las Cruces since it signed on the air June 13, 1990. Lee Enterprises owns six other television stations in Roswell, Tucson, Honolulu, Omaha, Portland and Huntington-Charleston, W.Va.
