Such important work, such humiliation for Fritz.

But what a career break for Mack, who could become Channel 4's Rosie Reporter, a seemingly permanent gig at a station where reporters with beats are a rarity. Other stations carrying the O'Donnell show are probably paying just as much attention to her. So shouldn't there also be a Rosie press plane to transport reporters from all of these outlets? Or perhaps they could save money by having a pool Rosie reporter. Not a bad idea, either, for stations that carry "The Oprah Winfrey Show." That includes KABC-TV Channel 7, which this week extended its in-depth coverage of Winfrey by flying its staff Oprah groupie, Adrienne Alpert, to Chicago to cover O'Donnell's appearance on Tuesday's Oprah's show. Meanwhile, Channel 7's entertainment industry lap dog, George Pennacchio, was dispatched to the "Roseanne" set to receive his regular feeding and advertise the show's Tuesday night finale on ABC.

You could hear Roseanne, but hardly see her through Pen-nacchio's drool. The essence of "The Last Don," too, was that even a murderous despot like the Super Mobster played with glowering stoniness by Danny Aiello can have Solomonic wisdom worthy of any great patriarch. Also, that he will need it to tackle seemingly insoluble family troubles that evoke sympathy for him, despite his second-guessing of his top assassin's decision to spare the don's own daughter in a wedding-night massacre that took the life of her groom.
