ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL September 1 1, 1966 A-9 giving salt. The puzzling plot teeters on the absurd, but walkie-talkie devices, colored space food, laser beam guns, and the pointed ears of spaceman (Leonard Nimoy) will appeal to the youngsters. TV Key Previews Today's top television shows are previewed and selected for the Journal by TV Key's staff of experts who attend rehearsals, watch screenings and analyze scripts in New York. Yyfll see Andy; and the Smothers Brothers indulge in nonsensical banter before offering up a folk tune. To cover all the bases, Andy winds up the bill with Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, horses, and songs like "Smile, Darn ya, i 1 (Color) (8 p.m.

"Viet Nam: War of the Ballot." This is an hourlong special on today's election activities in South Viet Nam, with expanded segments on the climate of opinion existing in all sectors of the electorate in the cities and the villages, as well as the political, economic and social factors involved. Chet Huntley offers his personal appraisal of the pre election picture, and the returns available in this first free-election to be held in this wartorn country will be offered as they come in. (Color) (4:30 p.m. Channel 4) IT'S ABOUT TIME. (Premiere) Youthful fans of the animated cartoon series "The Flintstones" get a look at real live actors playing prehistoric cavemen and cavewomen in the opener of this new comedy series tonight.

Actually, the stars of the show are two very modern astronauts whose attempts to fly their capsule into space leads them to breaking the time barrier, and lands them plunk back in the Stone Age, but the kids may get a charge out of the slapstick antics of Imogene Coca and Joe E. Ross as the cave couple who befriend the astronauts, Jack Mullaney and Frank Alettor. (Color) (5:30 p.m. Channel 13) WALT DISNEY. (Season's Premiere) "Emil and the Detectives." Part I.

Even Walt joins the European chase fad with this pleasing tale about young German urchins shadowing underworld characters around handsome West Berlin. Led by Roger Mobley, the kids tail potential bank robbers and have a big time being important. Another treat is portly Walter Slezak's performance as the bank robbing baron. (Color) (5:30 p.m. Channel 4) ED SULLIVAN.

(Season's Premiere) Ed's got some popular headliners for his 19th season premiere. There's Red Skelton with a monologue and pantomime act, taped specially for Sullivan, and there's a segment from "Holiday on Ice" on tape for a skill reminding us of winter. For example poker-faced comedian Jackie Vernon lends a hand in such wacky numbers as beauty contests as they may have been held in 45 A.D., and has some interesting facts for Garry after his visit to Venus.

Ron Carey and John Byner are two more comedians who get in on the beauty contest act; Moore and Kirby do a TV news special from their particular vantage point; and Pete Barbutti shows what a comedy pianist can do with his nose to the keyboard. (Color) (7 p.m. Channel 13) BONANZA. (Season's Premiere) "Something Hurt, Something Wild." This top rated TV series begins its eighth season on the air with a melodramatic entry which may appeal more to the ladies in the audience. A rancher friend of Cartwright's almost starts a range war when Little Joe is accused of molesting his young daughter, recently returned from the east.

As the predictable tale unfolds, we find the girl (Lisa Loring) is prone to tell lies and has some unhealthy opinions about men in general. (Color) (7 p.m. Channel 4). SUNDAY NIGHT MOVIE. "The Hustler." (1961) (Repeat) A superb drama.

It's an incisive story about a pool shark whose drive and ambition to be number one causes tragedy in his personal life. Paul Newman is excellent in the role, and there's a brilliant portrait of a veteran pool champ played by Jackie Gleason. Newman and Gleason are given outstanding support by Piper Laurie and George C. Scott, and writer-director Robert Rossen captures the seamy atmosphere to perfection. (8 p.m.
