It's Jim and Margaret's 35th wedding anniversary, and Betty, Bud and Kathy are coming home to celebrate. It's an unprecedented reprise of a television series "Father Knows Best" that went out of production In 1960. The 90-mfnute movie bringing Robert Young, Jane Wyatt, Elinor Donahue, Billy Gray and Lauren ha pin together again will be telecast at 8 p.m. EDT Sunday on NBC.

The film was hurriedly being repaired to fill the spot left by IBC's cancellation of the 29th annual Emmy presentations and was not available for review. "Getting together again was marvelous and traumatic and loving," said Lauren Chapin, who was when the show began in 19S4. She had seen only Billy since production stopped. The show, however, continued in prime time reruns until 1963. "We were like a family when we were doing the show," she said.

"We were so close, especially the kids. You may not be aware of it, but working so closely for so long with someone does change you." Lauren, 31, married and divorced twice, said working on the series was like "going to a psychiatrist for free. She said that while she was living an idyllic television life, her own home life was anything but idyllic. "I came from divorced parents and my mother was awarded custody," she said. "She was a typical movie mother and an alcoholic.

I worked for nearly 10 years and never saw any of the money. She used to give me the checks face down to sign. If I tried to see what was on the other side she'd slap my hand." H7S Fiesta Dish Sundae REG. traces his Italian origins to "blueblood gangsters" in Harlem, one of the poorest and most crime-ridden area of New York City. As a businessman, he settled into a wealthy Westchester County suburb until his family life feti apart. Smoking marijuana somehow gave him new insight and he made the transition from weilto-do businessman to "some nut living in Westchester (who) smoked grass and (told) anybody anything on his mind." And he became "king" to the "kids who came to his house to smoke his free dope." The desire for gut honesty and a gradually developed belief in God led to the establishment of a commune in the home where he had lived with his second wife. The hippies, as skilled crafst-men and carpenters, remodeled the place and sold it last spring for $80,000 the first payment on their boat.

Once the rest of the money is collected, they'll head for "where it's warm and stay in the warm belt for a lot of years," the king said. "We'll sail around the world see all the peoples in all parts of the world, we'll be accepted as people. In India we won't look strange people won't run from us. They won't sell us cameras, they'll sell marijuana." King Vito, who claims to have smoked $40,000 worth of the weed over a four-year period, said he plans to make marijuana the national crop wherever the hippies settle. He maintains the group, which includes only two women and ranges in age from 19 to 45, will be able to stay together, even within the cramped confines of the boat because of "one mind, one soul, one body one dream." King Vito, the hippies' 45-year-old leader, estimated they would have to sell 40,000 bags to raise the money, but said he hopes the grace of God, or a publisher for his book, will come through first. "1 don't know if they're (President Carter peanuts, but they taste like them," he said of the product. "There's a lot of spititual love in them." Given a $20,000 debt, the crew's lack of sailing experience and the uncertain location of their island of paradise, the hippies' boat was the most credible feature in the plan. The schooner Yacht Freedom demonstrated Its capabilities by winning international races in the United States, Europe and South America back in the 1930s when the Morton Salt family owned it. And eight years ago, the boat successfully defended its 1939 transatlantic record for ocean racers under 100 tons of nine days, 22 hours and 11 minutes.

Now anchored off City Island, north of here, the schooner is home for "the king" and his followers. "When you get to the dock yell, Strassburg had told a prospective visitor, "then someone will come and pick up up in a dinghy." Below deck, a dimly lit room cluttered with belongings and filled with a musty odor seemed more like a huge attic in an old Victorian house than a boat's sleeping quarters. The sea hippies all with large wooden crosses around their necks sat casually on beds of flat pillows, bagging peanuts and joking. King Vito, a friendly man dressed in bathing suit and Mexican poncho, explained that at 39 he gave up his career as an executive for a waste treatment firm to practice a newfound truth. "I know America from the garbage pail up there isn't anything about garbage I don't know.

I sat with the biggest executives in America and discussed their garbage," he said. She worked in a psychiatric hospital for several years, but recently has gotten back into acting and begun a singing career, She has a 4year-old son named Matthew. "I couldn't get acting out of my blood," she said.

"Not so much for the ego. It's a catharsis for me." She said she is now working to get Congress to pass legislation to protect working children. She said she would like to see a substanial amount of their wages placed in trust funds. Billy Gray has also dropped acting and is now a professional motorcycle racer, the same career he follows in the reunion film. Young, Miss Wyatt and Miss Donahue, who is married and has four children, have contin ued to lead active screen careers.
