Duke, who retired as ser-geant-at-arms this year. as is being proposed by the present administration. I have seen the plans, and my humble opinion is that these drastic changes will definitely destroy the historical value of the church, notwithstanding what it will do to the surrounding properties. I certainly believe that some action should be taken by many of the civic groups in town that are interested in preserving this monument. I think that we owe it to pos terity to prevent the destruc- tion of this valuable site.

I understand, by talking to. some of the Catholic members, that the priest has stat ed that he has the power to carry out this atrocity and that the parishioners have no say so at all. May I ask, is this democracy? Or maybe autocracy? It is hard to conceive such actions by a Catholic priest in this day and age. This man is not putting into practice the edicts of recent ecumenical council, "that the people or layman shall help in running the af- fairs of the church." I send my plea to all civic ana any organization mat can help in preventing the destruction of this historical monument. JOHN AYRES 2320 Dora Dr.
