The Johnsons have fed the hole, apparently an old well about four feet in diameter, 162 old tires only to have most of them ooze out of sight in the seemingly bottomless pit.

JOHNSON SAYS the family's 175-pound Saint Bernard, Brandy, discovered the hole in March, 1973. At that time, it was only a one-inch hole. Brandy, sniffed, barked and dug at it. Johnson's wife, Harriet, stuck a broom handle into it, but "I didn't reach bottom." She said her husband probed it with longer sticks and a plumber's "snake." Still no bottom. By then the hole was a foot wide.

NE Telephone 243-5811 First Grade At Lindrith Gives Circus Journal Special LINDRITH First graders in Lindrith Elementary School next year are expected to have happier expectations of school, thanks to a project conducted recently by the first and second grade class of Mattie Irene Bishop. The youngsters presented a "circus" for the prospective newcomers on registration day. Ms. Bishop said her pupils, appropriately dressed in original clown attire presented clown skits in a "show" to which the whole school was invited, then took the pre-first children to their classroom to watercolor clown figurines. The first and second graders supervised this activity while Ms.

Bishop registered next year's first graders and when registration was over, lemonade and animal crackers were served and a clown story read before time to go home. She said the project gave the first and second graders a chance to show off and be "the big kids" for a change and gave next year's first graders a happy experience at school. "There will be no crying on the first day of school in August," Ms. Bishop predicted. The Lindrith school is a part of the Jemez Mountain School District in Rio Arriba County.

He doesn't know what to do next, other than to keep the hole covered so that the Johnson's six cats and three dogs won't fall in. Mrs. Johnson said a group of cave explorers want to examine the hole. "I I want to find out what it is," she said. "I want to know where all my tires went." "QUESTION" A city engineer came out, dropped a measure line and determined the hole had a depth of 31 feet.

THE ENGINEER recommended the hole be filled with gravel. The Johnsons found that would cost them $500, so they began collecting old tires, tossed in 162 of them, filled the top of the hole with dirt and covered it with a wooden plank. Johnson decided to check the results last month. He found two tires wedged against the top of the pit, but the other 160 (Q) Some day I must make a decision concerning a Mortuary- -how do I go about this intelligently? Actually, it was from this sort of relationship our Funeral home evolved. The period when death visits a family is one of life's deepest emotional experiences. We suggest you discuss with your clergyman, attorney, and family friends what things to look for in choosing a funeral home.
