The victim was Steve Canon, 11, son of Mr. and Mrs.

H. D. Canon of Amarillo. The boy's father told police his family was spending the weekend on a house boat belonging to the Paul MacDon-eld family, also of Amarillo. The boat was anchored on the Canadian River arm of the large lake 30 miles northwest of here.

Canon said he was fishing with MacDonald and they had left their wives and children on the boat. The boy appar ently fell unnoticed and the women called two passing fishermen who located the boy in 15-foot deep water. A physician was called from Tucumcari and members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers worked for nearly two hours to revive the boy, but to no avail. Canon said the boy could not swim.

Search at End For Missing Boys HANNIBAL, Mo. (UPI) The official search for three boys who disappeared without a trace 18 days ago ended Sunday. Robert Harrison, commander of the Mark Twain Emergency Squad, announced that there was nowhere el.se to look for Joey Hoag, 13, his brother Billy, 11, and Edwin Craig Dowell, 14. "We tried everything," he said. "We're sorry it wasn't good enough." Harrison spoke at Murphy's Hill, which was torn apart in order to get at the cave system within.

Harrison said later that when the search ended every corner of the cave had been revealed by men, machinery and dynamite. Vance, deputy secretary of defense, said Sunday there are "strong indications that we may have sharply increased fighting" in Vietnam in the near future.
