Marquis, a Santa Fe car salesman, pleaded guilty last year to manslaughter and burglary as part of a plea bargain and was sentenced to 24 years in prison. Eva Shoen's husband and her inlaws offered a $250,000 reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of the "person or persons responsible for her brutal murder." But L.S. Shoen said last year that he might not pay the reward because he was not satisfied Marquis was the killer.

i U.S. Customs Seizes 44 Pounds of Heroin NOGALES, Ariz. The U.S. Customs Service has reported what it said was its biggest heroin seizure ever in Nogales 44 pounds of "Mexican brown heroin" found in a vehicle at the Mariposa Port of Entry. Border Patrol has agreed to pay $40,500 to a farm worker's family whost $6 million lawsuit accused four agents of constitutional abuses. The Texas Rural Legal Aid office in Plainview, which helped represent the family, said Monday's settlement requires the Border Patrol to display a poster in the Amarillo Border Patrol office advising individuals of their right to make complaints.

No Reward Prompts Tipster's Lawsuit TELLURIDE, Colo. A tipster who turned in the man who confessed to killing U-Haul heiress Eva Shoen at her home in Telluride is suing her relatives for failing to pay the $250,000 reward they offered in the case. Kelly Lemons, of Farmington, N.M., is the brother-in-law of Frank Marquis, who admitted killing Shoen on Aug. 6, 1990. An Air Force fighter plane on a training mission from a Phoenix-area base crashed Thursday in a desert area southwest of this northern Arizona but the pilot ejected safely, authorities said. pilot identified as Lt. Col. Joseph A. Abbott was in good condition but was being held overnight for observation at Luke Air Force Base Hospital, base officials said.

His F-16 was on a mission over Winslow with another plane, whose pilot reported seeing a parachute open before the fighter went down near the Coconino County National Forest at 10:20 a.m. The plane was assigned to the 62nd Fighter Squadron from Luke, which is located in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale. Sutmiller said that a board of Air Force officers will investigate the crash.
