"I dont normally set numerical goals, but if I can maintain the consistency I have enjoyed for the last 12 years, and stay healthy, I could reach 300 victories in the five-year period." Bobby Orr has become so discouraged with his comeback attempt with the Chicago Black Hawks of the NHL that he is considering retiring as an active player, Orr's lawyer, Alan Eagleson, said. "Bobby knew, going in, that because of his history of knee problems, 35 to 40 percent (of his ability) was all he could expect, but he was prepared for the reality," Eagleson said. "Still, it's hard for him to accept.

He's really down in the dumps." Forward Will Palement of the Colorado Rockies was given a 15-game suspension and fined $500 for a stick-swinging incident during an Oct. 25 game with Detroit. Paiement struck Detroit forward Dennis Pokinlch in the face. The Colorado forward has missed six games awaiting the disciplinary action from the league and those will count in the suspension. In another ruling, Philadelphia forward Paal Holmgren was given a three-game suspension and $500 fine for a kicking incident involving Boston Bruins' Terry O'Reilly last Saturday.

Tests performed on coach Harry Howell of the Minnesota North Stars showed that his coronary arteries are normal. Howell, 45, underwent an angiogram after a stress electrocardiogram taken last week showed an abnormal result. Garry Howatt, Bob Bourne and Mike Ka-szycki pounced on Minnesota defensive blunders to score second-period goals and carry the New York Islanders to a 5-2 NHL victory over the North Stars. Bob MacMlllan continued to boost his league-leading point total, scoring a goal and two assists as the Atlanta Flames outlasted the Vancouver Canucks 4-2. Lanny McDonald and Walt McKechnle each had two goals and Paul Harrison recorded his second shutout as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated St.

Buss said, "Events of the past several weeks have convinced me that continuation in World Team Tennis is not economically sound." The New York and Boston franchises had already called it quits, leaving seven teams in the WTT.

The Strings dissolving leaves the future of the league in doubt. Business partners of Buss own the Indiana and San Diego franchises and have an interest in the Anaheim franchise. The Golden Gaters of WTT plan to operate next season, team owner David Peterson said, but added, "I recognize we must have someone to play against." But despite recent happenings, Peterson predicted, "World Team Tennis will be operating in 1979." The Miami Dolphins signed wide receiver Bo Rather, a recent Chicago Bear cut who began his pro career with the Dolphins. The NFL club placed Larry Ball, used mainly on special teams, on waivers. Jimmy Connors might not be able to play in the Hong Kong Open tennis tournament because of an injured left ankle.

Hong Kong doctors described Connors' injury as a bone spur and they advised him to rest.
