Th thought and Intent are clearly defined In" my mind, but where the schools will be, or exactly what wilt be their scope and character, has not been worked out.

"It Is far too early for me to discuss the subject, and I cannot consent to do so," Charles M. Schwab, In an Interview said On Saturday, the day of the dedication at Weatherly, Pa of a public-school building which bears his wife's name and which was presented to the town by the foraver president of the steel trust, Schwab announced that following the example of Andrew Carnegie, he would devote bis fortune to benevolent purposes. Schwab is worth In round numbers I2O.OO0.OC0. His plans, however, differ from those of Carnegie. The latter is making public libraries his chief benevolence to the world.

Schwab will spend his millions in the establishment of schools, and a novel turn will be given to his charity by the erection ot public schoolhouses wherever urgent need exists for them. Schwab paid a glowing trlbuts to the public-school system. icHobT." he said, "constitute the nucleus from which all our Industrial greatness has sprung. Schwab then paid a high tribute to the School Trustees and Committee 61 Arrangements, whirh Jointly had the construction and equipment of the new Waverly building in charge.

"It is an easy he said, "for a man who has a great deal of money to Sign a check for thousands of but it is something -more to de-Vote time and attention to something that does not promise any remuneration." A cablegram from T.rus-sels states that Carlota, the unhappy widow of the ill-fated Emperor Maximilian of Mexico, is dying. She still holds mock court daily in the Chateau De Bonchat, near Brussels, fancying herself yet the Empress of Mexico, for she has been bereft of reason for thirty-seven years.

To humor her mad brain, the attendants affect the graces of a circle, and pretend that she presides over their entertainments and household affairs. There are those that claim that the ex-Empress, who is the. only sister of King Leopold of was poisoned by the deadly "loco root," secretly Introduced into her food before she left Mexico in 1863, to seek the aid of Napoleon III In her husband's behalf after the United States had warned the foreign troops to leave Mexico, which they had Invaded during our Civil War, setting up as Empetor Maximilian, brother of Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria.
