The yellow and white tones of the low-celled reception room were accentuated by branching sprays of white roses, and groups of yellow cannas. In the dining-room rich dark red sweet peas that formed the table decorations harmonized with the tone of the walls. A large cluster of the fragrant blossoms filled a cut-glass bowl, the pretty centerpiece being duplicated In a mirror on which it rested. Detached blossoms were scattered over the snowy damask.

Judge Nichols is an old resident or Arizona, having lived in the Territory twenty years or more, and has been largely identified with the steady growth and development of the Southwest He Is one of Arizona's Territorial officers, having received the appointment of Territorial Auditor under ex-Gov. K. O.

Murphy, and was reappointed under the present Governor. Alexander O. Brodie. Judge Nichols is being urged by the Republican party as a candidate for the office of Delegate to Congress. Being a popular man with both parties, his friends hope he may accept.

Judge Nichols expresses a great liking for Los Angeles, and will be in this city as much of the time as can be spared from official duties. Mrs. Nichols and Miss' Butter-field will remain until October. 'They are guests of the Hotel Lillie. 4 Farewell to Neighbors.

A large party met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Harper, at Downey Tuesday evening to testify to tne esteem in whinh u. charming wife are held, and to bid them good-by on the eve of their departure, as Mr. Harper has disposed of his farm.

The evening was passed In dancing, four rooms being filled with those who "tripped the light fantastic toe." The party did not break up until nearly 3 a.m., and In the farewell greetings all expressed re-great at losing such estimable neighbors, and hoped that their future would be one of unalloyed prosperity and happiness. Miss Mary B. McCarthy entertained a few friends Informally Friday evening, the chief diversion being a test of the gentlemen's skill in the millinery line. The results were all that could be desired, the most artistic creation winning for Its author a prize. The gentleman whose nimble fingers secured him first place was Mr. Bur-dette, the lady's trophy falling to the share of Miss Ida Underhill.

The Sigma Epsilon Sigma held a Jojy meeting Thursday night at the home of Miss In. Park The house was tastefully decorated in evergreen and flowers, which softened the glare of the lights. The regular business was omitted and the evening devoted to games and amusements, after which dainty refreshments were served. The following programme was rendered: Reading, Raymond Hettelfinger; recitation, Davenport; song, quartette, Misses Hope Tibbot, Ethel Davenport, Eva Tibbot and Jessie Nutting; essay, Hubert Bailie. In a laughable watermelon eating contest Ernest Kimmel captured first prize with Ross Bennett a close sejoni.

E. P. Whitney and family have gone to Coronado for an outing of two months. Miss Annie Pease of Los Angeles is in the city, the guest of her sister, Mrs. Charles P.

Lum, wife of City Engineer Lum, Is home from an outing at Terminal Island. Mrs. E. Darlington departed last week for an extended visit at Adrian, Mich. Miss Ethel Johnson, who recently resigned a position In the postoffice, after a service of seven years, has gone to Los Am for a visit.
