WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 Ul. An Investigation of the use of surplus food donations in a West Virginia hospital cafeteria may lead to a check on the use of such food in hospitals elsewhere. Senator Robert C. Byrd (D-WVa) said today he has been advised by federal officials that they are of the opinion that donated food may not be used "for a feeding operation which Is not part of the food service to its (the hopital's) patients." "They also assured me," Byrd said, that they would have the matter investigated to spp if i similar practice was being engaged In by other hospitals in xne country.

Byrd said that during a recent visit to the Beckley Memorial Hospital at Beckley, W. he was informed donated cheese was being sold in the hospital cafeteria. Henry Hammond of "003 Concord Tike. McDanicl Heights, local Diamond State Telephone Company deskman, on Tuesday observed his 25th service anniversary in the telephone industry. Hammond started with 1hc Diamond State Company's Wil-Tninctnn nlant deDartmcnt as a construction man in 1934 and later served with the installation and repair proup before becoming a deskman in 1942. He Is a member of the Hundred Thousand Mile Club, organization of telephone company employes who have driven company vehicles at least that distance without boins responsible for an accident. He is also a member of the Telephone Tioneers of America and the Eden Locke, Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
