He enjoyed the challenge of managing the wildlife resource, Draper said, but after a time became "mentally bored." In 1979, he was approached by Kenton with a proposal to join in the purchase of WBOC-TV in Salisbury. "George Weymouth and 1 put that deal together in a duck blind in South Carolina," recalled Draper, "over some 140-proof homemade whiskey." and didn't stop until they topped 20 percent." Draper had never been inside a television station until he walked into the Salisbury studio as the new owner in November 1980. "I was fortunate we had some good managers on site, good operators, technicians and financial people.
