Th papr Monday, July 11, 1988 Newscast Continued from 1 Postscript Continued from 1 and Duncan Wynne. The weatherman will be Jeff Donald, who will supply his reports from the Salisbury studio via microwave hookup. "All the computer graphics are down there," Barry said. Barry is excited about his new assignment. "It's neat to be able to come in here and do this from the ground up," he said.

"This is real creative television." He said this is his first anchoring job, "and I'm excited about that." He believes things are looking, up for Dover, too. That's another reason he likes his new job. "Dover may not seem like the biggest community, but it's on the move," he said. "This is a really active news town for a community its size." Gary Mullinax is a staff critic who writes regularly about the driver. The trucker merely laughed.

"The police don't listen to it," he insisted, then proved he was correct by repeatedly trying the channel and getting no response. "I'll have to take you to a phone," he said. That's when Chuck discovered that the nearest humans were a mere 700 yards away, at a 24-hour truck stop that had been obscured by a rise in the highway. At the all-night diner, his confi-' dence soaring, Chuck dialed the toll-free number of a senior citizens' organization he recently joined, a group that offers emergency road service nationally. With the accuracy of a former newsman, which he is, he reported his exact location, correct to the nearest milepost.

After a long pause, the voice at the other end told him, "Sorry, we this time was one thought," Chuck said later. "This is really not my truck, it's my wife's cherished vehicle. What is she going to say?" She took it well, all things considered. And later, when his companions inquired about the next trip to Canada, Chuck told them merely, "You might give me a call in about five years." Determined to see sunshine amid adversity, he confided to a. friend, "This experience wasn't as bad as two years ago.

My car broke down in Maine on the way home from another fishing trip. I had to wait there a whole week for repairs." The other day, Chuck went fish-; ing in a well-stocked lake only a few miles from his home. He 'caught 22 walleye. Roland Wright, a News-Journal editor, writes here each Monday. have no service in that area," and suggested the Yellow Pages.

The waitress at the truck stop was more helpful. "There's a name of a towing service on the back of the menu," she pointed out. Two hours and many coffee cups later, the garage operator announced, "Your truck is done." Chuck's friends thought he meant repaired and ready to go, but Chuck knew better. "You mean it's he asked. The stranger nodded.

Seeing little chance to replace its shattered engine in the remote village and needing a way home, Chuck ordered the truck carried there aboard a flatbed truck for 314 miles at $1.75 a mile. He himself rode in the tow truck, his pals inside the ailing pickup. By nightfall, truck and travelers were back home without further incident. The director has to know where to position the cameras.

You have to know how the lighting is going to look on the set. Tapes have to come in and out of players. You also have to find the flow of the day. When do video feeds have to come in? When do you have to be back from the field to get things written and edited and in the computer system.
