The young, nonprofessional performers are talented and sincere but cannot project, so that frequently not only are their thoughts turned inward but so are their speeches.

The play provides no answers. Sometimes it doesn't even ask questions. Adults come in for a small amount of condemnation. They're described as blaming everyone but themselves. There's the mother who keeps her supply of drugs under the microwave, but it isn't otherwise suggested that these are all the offspring of drug-dealing parents.

The kids themselves are far from admirable. Kids in the Dark is a cautionary tale and a slice of life a dark, seamy nightmare world that exists all around us, that is closer to us than most of us think. Continued from page B4 the accuracy of the speech the looking inward that is the hallmark of both the young and the psychotic, the limiting vocabulary that is casually obscene and scatological, the shallowness of their lives, their fears, their lack of self worth and the us vs. them syndrome in which adults are the enemy. Insightful as this is, it isn't always the stuff of which a drama is made.

Truth is not only stranger than fiction, it is often less dramatic. The material has not been shaped, perhaps purposefully so. This leaves it to the director, Evie McElroy, and the actors, none of whom have completely succeeded. The action frequently stops, and there are dead spots in VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS 7971 BAR5ERT0H ARMORY 666 Norton Barberton SATURDAY, JAH. 30 SPECIAL li '-sir A CHER NICOLAS CAGE "IT'S WHATA SWEET WONDERFUL FILM!" -Joel Siegel.

In return, they will receive guaranteed live radio coverage of every game and they hope a legion of small stations.

The basketball team's longtime flagship station, Cleveland's WWWE (1100-AM), has a signal that penetrates most of North America. But the station has been told by Cavs president Thaxter Trafton that it will not be the team's home station next year, Cavs officials say, mainly because WWWE also carries Cleveland Indians games and schedule conflicts are commonplace. The Cavs, who say they have talked with four or five stations, aren't naming the new flagship because the final contract has not been signed. An article published in Cleveland Friday speculated that WERE (1300-AM) would be the winner. However, barring any unforeseen complications, the Cavs' new flagship will be WRMR (850-AM), according to two persons close to the negotiations.

WRMR has a music-memories format. One source said the deal likely will be for three years. Unlike in the past, when WWWE negotiated contracts with affiliated stations, the Cavs are dealing with affiliates directly. The negotiations are headed by longtime Cavs announcer Joe Tait, who in December was named director of broadcasting for the team. Tait was not available for comment late Friday, nor was Cavs president Trafton.
