Drennan says he will knock me. I know they say that I haven't been that close to sports lately, but I've been talking more sports now than ever, only it's cocktail lounge kind of sports. "People told me that I'll never make it in the bar business. They said it was tough and they said I'd never learn it.

Drennan has a voice that sounds as if he gargled with Drano. From 1980-82, he teamed with Joe Tait on the WUAB-TV's Indians telecasts, which featured Drennan screaming, "Ducks on the pond" and "The bags are juiced." Another one of Drennan's moments of glory was when he thought the Milwaukee Brewers' ground crew members were "a bunch of tough-looking girls." Actually, they were guys in lederho-sen. Meanwhile, Tait insulted Drennan as if he were some broadcast school dropout.

After being fired by WUAB, Drennan Drennan has worked full and part time for several local radio stations, including WHK, WRMR and WERE. He also is the owner of Drennan's Jimmy's cocktail lounge on Pearl Road in Strongsville. "Business has been great for me," Drennan said. "I'd love to do Sportsline, but I don't need it. I'm not afraid to tell you that I'm pulling in over $100,000 a year.

My wife Jackie and I built a palace, and I mean a palace, in Strongsville. It's got a Japanese waterfall, a synthetic putting green and a Jacuzzi. I go on vacations to Hawaii and Florida. If I don't work things out on Sportsline, I plan to take a month off and just sit in the sun in Florida." The reason Drennan has roared into WWWE's picture is that he used to work for Embrescia at WBBG, when Drennan was host of an afternoon sports talk show in 1978-79. "Tom (Embrescia) knows my work," Drennan said.

"He knows you can't put some Tom, Dick and Harry on that show. He knows you need a Clevelander. I'm from Chicago, but I love Cleveland. I could have left this market, but I never want to.
