Tony Betts tallied for Buffalo at 12:10 of the fourth period before Barry closed out the scoring with only :42 remaining in the game. THE REST of the period was rather quiet until Buffalo's Steve Klaassen scored unassisted with 2:29 to play to give the Stallions a 3-1 lead. That set the stage for the Force's five-goal barrage, four coming in a 5:42 span.

Sinclair got the first goal, assisted by Mike Barry, with only 47 seconds elapsed in the period. Then Clyde Best got his 14th of the season with 12:52 to play. Best was assisted by Schnettgoecke and scored from close range. Garcia got the next two, one at 10:51 on a rebound shot (Astigarraga assisted) and the second at 8:29 on a long shot from the left side. Schnettgoecke got the Force's final goal of the half with 4:55 to play.

It came on a head shot from close range and was assisted by Barry. Slobodan Jankovic kept Buffalo from being shut out in the period, scoring with 1:21 to play to make it 6-4. CLEVELAND outshot Buffalo 34-13 in the half, and played especially well in the second quarter with 23 shots on goal to Buffalo's five. By Larry Pantages Beacon Journal stiff writer The Cleveland Force got a lift from an injured player, a new player, and the second largest crowd of the season and defeated the Buffalo Stallions 8-5 Saturday night at the Coliseum. The injured player was forward Poli Garcia, who missed Friday night's Force loss to Pittsburgh because of a leg injury.

But Garcia was named star of the game against Buffalo after scoring three goals, giving him nine for the season. "We needed him and he did exceptionally well," said Force coach Eddie McCreadie, whose team is 5-9 for the season. THE NEW player was Ruben Astigarraga, an Argentinian, just acquired from Tulsa of the North American Soccer League. Astigarraga had two assists and a goal on a head shot to help Geve-land. "I was very pleased with him," McCreadie said.

"He's a good player and very skillful as you can see." Attendance was 4,644 and the crowd was rewarded not only with a Force victory but with a break at the concession stands. Beer and soft drinks were sold for five cents a cup. The promotion apparently caused only one small incident, as four fans were escorted out of their seats in the second half. Two of Cleveland's goals came on head shots and Buffalo was unable to capitalize on two occasions when the Force's Roy Sinclair was in the penalty box for infractions. McCreadie said those bits of good fortune were somewhat overdue.

"They say sometimes you make your own luck and we had some breaks tonight. I think it was about time." he said. AFTER BUFFALO (now 7 6) took a 3-1 lead. Cleveland came back with five consecutive goals and led 6-4 at halftime. Play was roughly even in the second half as Buffalo took 24 shots on goal to 21 for Cleveland.

For the game, Cleveland had 55 shots and Buffalo 37. Buffalo goalie Scott Manning, inserted in the second half, played especially well in holding the Force offense. Buffalo took a 2-0 lead in the first period as Iubo Petrovic and Joe Horvath scored goals only 33 seconds apart.
