(UPI) The tinkling fingers and the sidelong knowing glance that endeared Hoagy Carmichael to millions of movie goers are no more, but his music lives. To celebrate the jazzman and his gift to 20th Century music, Carmichael will be memorialized at the Indiana University campus Monday and buried beside the parents.

A medley of his tunes will begin at 12:30 p.m., a half hour before the formal service in the grand foyer of the Indiana University Musical Arts Center, a room he donated. Carmichael earned a law degree at IU in 1926. He went to high school mostly in Bloomington and later to Indiana University, where the Book Nook restaurant was his favorite hangout, partly because owner Peter Costas let him sit around for hours creating new tunes. He died Sunday in California at age 82. He last visited Indiana in 1972 for the dedication of the grand foyer in which his funeral services were scheduled.

Speakers were expected to include University Chancellor Herman Wells, IU President John Ryan and Howard Allen of New York; a close lifetime friend of Carmichael. Wells attended IU when Carmichael did. The prayer and benediction will be by Dr. John Treszker, minister of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), of Bloomington, of which Carmichael was a member. Survivors in attendance were expected to include Carmichael's wife, Dorothy Ellen; sons Hoagy Bix of Bedford, N.Y., and Randy Bob of Detroit, and a sister, Georgia Maxwell, of Los Angeles.
