the the 01 The Daily Journal, New Year's Eve wedding planned at courthouse The stroke of midnight will not only be the beginning of a new year, but for one couple it will be the start of a new life together. A wedding has been scheduled for midnight on the Johnson County Courthouse steps. Philip Amoruso of Chicago and Jean Motsinger of Indianapolis will be married by White River Township Justice of the Peace Marc L. Griffin at precisely midnight, making it the first marriage of the year. The couple bothwin their late 40's will leave after the wedding for a honeymoon in Florida.

Johnson county law enforcement agencies today urged motorists to drive with safety over the New Year's holiday. Weather conditions for tonight included a forecast of rain, causing county law enforcement authorities to caution motorists about driving tonight and New Year's Day. A variety of restaurants 'and lounges are' expecting a "heavy night" of business on New Year's Eve. Two Greenwood area motels, the Ramada Inn-Greenwood and the Wilsonian Motel, have reported they have special room rates tonight. The Wilsonian Motel, which was omitted from an article Monday previewing New Year's Eve activities, has a "champagne special" tonight featuring a room rate of $13.75 per couple and a free bottle of champagne.

The new year will begin Wednesday with a number of county officials being sworn-in during ceremonies at 11 p.m. at the Johnson County Courthouse Wednesday. District Courthouse from their downtown motel about an hour before they were expected. After ordering out coffee, they resumed their deliberations at 9:20 a.m. EST. Two and a half years after the bugging of Democratic party headquarters, two years after Nixon's landslide reelection and months after he resigned the presidency in disgrace, the case was finally handed over to the jury Monday. It appeared the jurors were making slow progress sifting through the evidence amassed during the lengthy trial.

But there were no signs to indicate the jury was anywhere near reaching a verdict. "The object of this trial is to ascertain the truth about the issues that have been submitted for your determination," Judge John J. Sirica said Monday, sending the case to the jury after 13 weeks of trial.
