Major race tracks in Maryland will be taxed in 1947 under a new plan dividing the revenues between the state and county and municipal governments. Under the measure, adopted yesterday at an extraordinary session of the state legislature, "breakage" the odd pennies lopped from pari-mutuel payoffs will be figured out to ten cents instead of present five. The state and the tracks will divide the money saved.

The new law also imposes a four-per cent tax on the gross betting pools at mile tracks but reduces their daily license fees from $6,000 to $1,000. A clause provides that the city of Baltimore shall not share in revenue derived from the new tax plan unless it repeals a special 5 per cent municipal tax recently levied on Pimlico race track. The city stands to gain approximately equal amounts of revenue under either the state tax or its own levy, and city officials have indicated a special meeting of the City Council will be called shortly to repeal the municipal tax.
