Seafobd, Sept 18. With the advent of September commence the pr for the annual revival of one of our most important industries the oyster packing business.

Repairs are made upon the houses, the internal arrarj cements and apparatus are overhauled and renovated. tubs, buckets are rehooped and piled up in countless the sbuckers are busily eo gaged in selecting their benches. By the lath of the month these prelimi naries are usually completed, when the general activity along the docks, the CO or more wbite sails wnicn aot ine bosom or the Nanticoke, and the sharp click, click of tho hammer indicates that the business ha practically opened for the season. The outlook for a prosperous season is at present exceedingly encouraging, the reports from the agents circulating among northern customers indicating that the demand this yrar will be far in excess of that of last Notwithstanding the fact of the lively and vigorous competition going on the first few years among tho different establishments on the peninsula, the demand for Seaford oysters has steadily increased, and they are known in almost every eastern and western town, and also in the British provinces. The oysters used at this point are taken from the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, aud although not large, are very fat, and of delicious flavor.

From f0 to 00 boats of various sizes, employing from 175 to 200 men, are kept continually at work dredging, tonging and tract-porting the bivalves. At this season of the year, those coining to the houses are known in oyster parlance as "skeletons," i. e. poor as the weather grows colder they will have arrived at maturity, and bo ready to ticklo the palate of the fastidious customer without a word of adverse comment. To enter into a detailed and comprehensive description of the magnitude of the oyster busiuess at this place to follow the mollusk from its capture to its final prtpaiatiou for market, would require much more space thaa is at mycommand, yet these few brief outlines serve to give tho readers of Evebv Evening an idea of its importance.

There are five packing establishments, all conveniently located en the river front, employing in the aggregate, 250 men, women and children, white and colored, distributed about in various capacities. The wheelers, shovelers, bolsters, Jtc.are paid by the weeks. Tho shuckers receive 12i cents per gallon, averaging 16 gallons per day, or about 110 or 98 gallons per week, and earn ail the way from $8 to $10 and $11 aud an expert will occasionally turn in his checks for $15 and $18. The capital invested is variously estimated at from $15,000 to $20,000. The houses of Jipssrs.

Donoho A Emery aud Morrow, Brown are on land owned by the railroad company. The house of William H. Stevens which belongs exclusively to the Stevens Company, has a frontage of 150 feet, with seven feet water front; this building ex tends the same number of feet to the D. A D. railroad.

There are 70 benches, with additional room for in-crciving the number when occasion requires it. There is also storing capacity lor 3,500 bushels of oysters. All necessary outbuildings for aa ice house, stable, are provided, and a dwelling for wheeler is conveniently located. F'om 800 to 400 giUons per day of "straiKht" and st-lect" oysters are by this firm, aiid during the holidays the number reaches 1,000. The shipments extend over considerable territory, taking in the States of Vermont, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York aud Connecticut.

1H 11AS BVMOMS. Report nf Ireprertwtlona In Kansan by Escaped ladlaB'. Associated Free Dispatoh. Topeka, Sept, 18. There has been rumors here to Jay that Oheyene Indians were doing damage, such as burning houses, Ac, near Fort Dodge, on the western borners of Kansas.

The Governor and the officers of the Atchison, Topeka Santa Fee Kailroad Company have been in telegraphic communication with parties there all the afternoon. The facts are that two or three houses, three miles west of Dodge City, were on fire this evening, and it is not unlikely that some of the Indians, who escaped from their territory a few days ago, and who are known to have been turned back and broken up into squads, have set lire either to the prairie or the house. The excitement over the escape of the Indians has caused all kinds of false reports to get into circulation. United States troops are corralling the Indians, and there is no danger of any real trouble. A FIGHT WITH INDIANS NEAB DO DOE CITY.
