We clip the following from the Shenandoah Ittrald, which will be of Interest to many of our renders, as one of our principal coal firms, George W. Bush It Bon, receives the large amount of anthracite coal which it disposes of from this source It is a curious faot that but very few people have ever been able to understand-and properly appreciate tho vast extent of the deposits of coal in this valley.

Although for some time disputed, Its superior quality is now generally adm tted for nearly all purposes for which Anthracite coal is Wu remember in 1870, the year the Jferakt was established, when Shenandoah hud but 2(500 inhabitants, that hardly half a dozen men iu town believed in the permanency of tho place. Although miiiers themselves they were convinced that the Mammoth vein would i-oou be worked out, at the then rate o-production, which has been trebled since, and that when the Mammoth was gone there was no coal remaining for the town to depoud upon. The lleraUl, when it asserted that the Shenandoah Valley, for its area, contained the richest deposit of coal in the world, was laughed at, and when we predicted that the population of Shenandoah must treble itself in a few years, our prophecy was received with smiles of derision by the very people who have since been made wealthy by the appreciation of the value of real estate through the full realization of all our predictions. The lamented William Grant always thoroughly understood the wonderful mineral wealth surrounding us and evidenced the confidence he had in tho future of the town by his liberal expenditures in bailding, several of his enterprises being in progress at the time of his utltiinely death, but to him and a very few others of our leading coal men, was confined at that time, whatever of good opinion was entertained of Shenandoah, among those most deeply interested in it. Nine years have panned and the change in the publio estimation of our coal deposits is almost as great as the improvements and growth that have followed their development; but it is only now that we are beginning to learu enough about their magnitude to properly appreciate the brilliant future before fKTtown.

We may know that, notwithstanding the millions of tons of Mammoth coal already shipped from the valley, that trice as much remains to be mined, and that when the big vein is exhausted we have in the Buck Mountain, which is in excellent condition and with a top so strong that nearly all the coal can be mined, a source from which nearly as much coal can be taken as will be gotteu from the Mammoth itself. Then beside we have the Skidmore in good condition, and it only requires a slight improvement in the demand and this quality of coal will be eagerly sought for. Note Our Proposition. The money has been mada in Wilmington, made off of Wilniing-tonitinn, and yet has enriched foreign merchants, in place of expanding the resources of home interest.

Tho reasons assigned for this tendency to patrocizd the Philadelphia market are -various, but one great cause, we believe to he the neglsct upon the part of Wilmington merchants to properly cater to the wants of the public, liocoguizing the wrong, we propose to n'Rht it, and will, as far as it lies in our power, offer such inducement in DUY GOODS as will make it to the consumers interest to BUY at home, aa by so doiag they will save money. 1SI4.
