His father, however, wanted him to finish his degree, so the aspiring radio performer then known as Gary Gilbert started attending classes at Fresno State (which had its own television and FM stations). I shoot you and you're gone. You shoot me, you're gone." He was 37 when he arrived in Cleveland, an age when many radio personalities have burned out in the business. "You get over 30 in this business and you're an old man," Dee acknowledged. "I never hit until I was 37. A late bloomer.

I have the most beautiful human being who is in love with me the most totally honest woman. And, no matter what you've read about me, I'm a very faithful person.

I never cheated in any of my marriages. I just made bad choices. And it took me a little longer to grow up." Claiming to have been wronged by numerous past friendships and relationships, Dee says he is an older and wiser man. "I choose my friends carefully," he said. "I must have complete trust in my personal relationships.

I know what I am. Many people have tried varied and devious manipulations on my brain. People near and dear to me have betrayed me. "Play games with me and I'll just turn my back. I just don't have that much time left.

I don't give a damn what the listener thinks of me, personally or professionally. As long as he thinks and listens." Will a successful marriage soften Gary Dee? Don't count on it: "God said women are to be in the home. They are to serve and honor and obey their master me! Man!" "Blacks were put here on earth until we invented the international harvester. And yet, the same man, albeit much quieter, also can say that "goodness will win out.

We're all God's children. We all have good and bad in us. I'm trying to accentuate the good and bad on the air so people will think." Teacher? Madman? Comedian? Bigot? Professional? Bully? Entertainer? Chauvinist? All of the above? "I enjoy what I do. I just want to be a good broadcaster. I am one of the best damn teachers on radio today.

Besides, I'm licensed. "And I enjoy being in Washington. This is the most important city in the world. It's freedom of speech. I'm in heaven.
