the Sunday school sponsored some particular event proved very interesting. A de- 1 light ful picnic supper was served at 6:30 o'clock and after this a Vesper! was held, the main features! bring a talk by Rev. William Harper of Dunbar. The large group then joined I in singing a number of hymns, and re- turned home feeling their day had been well spent. Yesterday, the Free Methodist Sun- day school followed suit and also held their annual picnic at Sheets' Hill.

Like- wise ihe day was spent, in games and contests of various descriptions. Al- though the main feature of their picnic. referring to the lunch-, come at noon. It proved as enjoyable. A large iiianbt-r were present and the picnic I was termed a huge success.

The teachers and officers of the Bap- church held their regular monthly -meeting at the home of Mrs. Mary Me- Dowel! on Tuesday evening. The eve- ning was devoted to business and talks were made by Mrs. McDowell and Rev. H.

D. Furrier on the subjects, "High Ideals" and "Maturity." respectively. Games were enjoyed by the younger officers and teachers and at the close of the evening a lunch was served by the hostess. Personals John Mullin and Mr. and Mrs.

Paul Mullin oz. McKeesport visited at the home of Mr. and -Mrs. J. S.

Gessner, Tuesday evening-. Miss Mary Pratt, of Outcrop, was in Fairchance Wednesday, shopping and visiting friends. Our-of-iowners here Thursday evening. were: John Springer, Nick McCune, and Bob Gloira of Uniontown. and Charles Tumey, Hayden Dearth, Harold Means, and Lester Tracy, of New Salem.

A meeting of the St. Ann's guild will be held in the basement of the church tonight at o'clock, for the purpose of having the final election of officers. members are urged to be present. Mr. and Mrs.

I have--many a time. For, good old reliable siandbys as they are, vegetables can and often do become very monotonous. My best results are obtained by adding a totally different and unusual flavor and quality to the vegetables, and to obtain this delightful change I often use Brazil nuts. Take salads for instance.

Just the plainest lettuce salad is tremendously uplifted and improved by slicing: Brazil nuts lengthwise over the crtsp-- green leaves, then serving with a French dressing made with lemon or grapefruit juice in place of rinegar, "with enough paprika to color it well. You will have a salad'-to entrance an epicure. Grilled Tomatoes with Sliced zil Nuts (illustrated above): are a meal in, themselves, and so delicious. Halve ripe but firm tomatoes, aptjwltk. butter, jsalt; and paprika and place under broiler or at the top of a yery hot' oven.

When half cooked, sprinkle' thickly with sliced Brazil nuts and return to the oven to crisp and brown. Bits of may be added also, but the Brazil nuts furnish all the necessary protein and other food qualities. Brazilian Salad is substantial, and Just right for the main dish oa a hot day. It calls for she potatoes, boiled in their jackets, then peeled and chopped. Add a cooked! beet of medium size, also 3 small pickled cucumbers and stalk of celery, both shredded flne Mix well, season with salt and pepper and paprika, a tiny grating-of onion it liked, and mix with a bolleS or mayonnaise dressing Just moisten well.

Now turn in a cupful of Brazil nutmeats, sliced wise In nice generous slices. Mound up nicely or mold and set away to chill several hours, then- arrange on lettuce leaves and mask the tire suirfa.ee with stiff decorate-', with sliced Brazil nutmeats and hard cooked egg cut la Sprinkle'with-paprika aatj REPUBLIC NEWS BY JOHN BATOREK. The latter was a guest for the past week of Miss Croci. JMr. and Mrs. Gildo Menossi, Coolspring, visited Mr. and Mrs.

John Martinelli recently. Mrs. Norman Rockwell, House 57, Filbert, recently spent a week with her parents at Somerset. Miss Irene Gaydos of Monessen was recently vacationing at the home of Rev. and Mrs.

Anthony Knapik in New Salem. BY EUGENE I'ENNACCHINI The New Salem Clvristian church is planning to sponsor a chicken dinner iu the church dining room on Thurs- day, August 30. The Loyal Bethany class is in charge of arrangements. Additional details will be announced in! the near future. The New Salem mushball team ended a long winning streak on Wednesday i evening of this week by dropping a 4-3! decision to Fairbank at Shamrock.

Shimshock twirled for the locals and turned in a fine exhibition for his first appearance on the mound. Kopacko featured for the losers, hitting a homer and a triple. Mrs. H. W. Brown was awarded a magazine rack. Sergeant Fred Bonchosky of the state troopers recently visited with friends, in the New Salem district.

Miss Anna Mae Bremenour, who employed as a nurse in a New York hospital, is visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Bremenour of Buffington. John Hlohinec of New Salem was a Pittsburgh caller Wednesday atfernoon.
