State Motor Vehicle Department workers were fired yesterday In a "job consolidation" move which statement from Acting Gov Johna' office indicated is only the beginning The statement said the first Given City Commission City Commissioner Courtney Harden's proposal that a ground crossing from Boston to Citrus avenue across the railroad tracks and thence into 2nd street was met with something less than enthusiasm by other commissioners Tuesday night However the commission voted to instruct Attorney Errol Willes and City Manager Howard Stanton to check into the situation -Harden distributed photostatic copies of the proposed crossing which he said he believed would alleviate traffic Jams in the downtown area According to Harden 40-foot street connecting Boston and Citrus would cost approximately 35437 but he said that by cutting the width to 30-feet the cost could be lowered 25 per cent Commissioner Gray pointed out that because of the proximity of the crossing to the railroad station the crossing would be blocked every time a train eame in Harden countered that trains will stop traffic at any crossing and this was followed by Mayor Wallace Sample's remark that he deem the proposal Commissioner George Russos said he estimated that a crossing at that location would be blocked approximately four hours a day by trains The mayor brought up the problem of a Shell Oil Co tank
