Day Camp Closed WOOD RIVER. Girl Scout leaders In the East Alton-Wood Kiver area have completed a two- week day camp for intermediate girls, it closed Friday evening in of arts and crafts and a Picnic supper for parents of the campers. Proceeds will bo given to-the Veterans Relief Fund. A band concert will be held at the park on the same date and refreshments will be sold by the Auxiliary during the evening. Amos Snyder and Ernest Heitzman of Alton. Will Be Discharged Soon WOOD RIVER. Paul Tretter, G.M. U.S.N.R., will leave on Monday for the naval station at St. Louis, where, he expects to receive a discharge in the near future.

Tretter has been visiting his moth- Consultant for Red Cross Course Martha Henderson, home service field representative, Mld- weitern Area Office, American Croas arrived today to serve tha Alton chapter for two weeks as consultant and director of the Home Service program. William Fraser, Chairman of Alton-Wood River Chapter, said services of Miss Henderson were requested by the executive committee upon the joint recommendations of the executive secretary and 1 the home service advisory committee chairman, p. w. Day, to assist the chapetr in reorganizing the Home Service program. Miss Henderson has had 10 years' experience In social case work be- joining the organization's national staff in 1942.

She is a graduate of Monmouth College, and the University of Denver, where she received her degree in social work in 1932. She has served as assistant executive secretary of- the public welfare department of Jasper County, director of relief for Green County, senior caseworker for the famllv welfare association of Omaha, social caseworker for the, town State Department of Child Welfare, director of relief for Audubon, County, and recently ta home service director of the Oklahoma City Chapter, American Red Cross. A native of Atlantic, Miss Henderson Is a member of the American Association of Social Workers. er, Mrs. Bertha Tretter of Woodland Hills.

He has been in the Navy four years and served aboard the u. S. ships Ludlow and Smalley until they were decommissioned early this year. Since then he has been stationed at Charleston, S. C.

He saw service in the Mediterranean area and in the south Pacific. Another son of Mrs. Tretter, Jmes Tretter, A.M.M. has been in Columbus, but will leave soon for a cruise aboard the U.S.S. Roosevelt.

Garden Club Meets WOOD RIVER. The Wood River Garden Club met Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. M. Manning, 282 Ninth street. Fourteen members and three guests were present.

Guests were Mrs. Robert Lane, Mrs. A. Wilson and Mrs. Loyal Palmer.

The house was decorated with garden flowers brought by the members. Mrs. Lane spoke on flower arrangement. Members were asked to prepare posters advertising the flower show to be held in the fall. These posters will be collected at the next meeting of the club, which will be held at the home of W.

B. Copley on Halloran avenue. A fish fry for the Garden Club members and their families will be given Friday evening, July 26. Mrs. Manning was assisted in entertaining by Mrs.

R. E. Hessenauer of Glendale Gardens. Day Camp WOOD RIVER, Mrs. G.r DeAtiey, director, announced thai day camp for girls under 10 years old opened today with an enroll ment of 42 girls.

This camp is oper ated under the management of Girl Scout leaders in this area and is held at Job's Hill at East Alton Any girl under 10 may attend ant information may be obtained from the Girl Scout office on Sixth street, Wood River.
