B6 Akron Beacon Journal Wednesday, June 5. 1985 TELEVISION oan Rivers to salute 'tramp of the century' on cable Mark Dawidziak "That's all. Am I wrong? "Now we know that you have no long-range plans for me, which is great, because every other network has come to me with long-range plans." Both ABC and CBS have arranged secret meetings, she said, to discuss the possibility of her launching a talk show to compete with Carson. But Ms. Rivers holds no animosity for the king of late-night television.

"Johnny Carson has been my supporter and my mentor for 20 years," she said. He gave her a break when everyone else was saying that her boisterous, sometimes vulgar, style wouldn't work. There also was the inevitable question about her numerous jokes about the once-overweight Elizabeth Taylor. Before telling the story of how Ms. Taylor called when Rosenberg was in the hospital, Ms.

Rivers couldn't resist a few shots at the now-slim Liz. "One more year as a pig and I would have a house," she complained. "And they took her to Three Mile Island that's how they melted her down." out Murphy bed in her high school locker. And what became of Heidi? Ms. Rivers and her husband, Edgar Rosenberg, went back to New York for a high school reunion.

There was a gray and stocky middle-aged woman who was the mother of two children. Rosenberg had no idea why his wife kept poking him in the ribs with her elbow. He had just met Heidi. Times have changed, Ms. Rivers noted.

In the '50s, Heidi was the girl with the notorious reputation. Three decades later, other high school chums are claiming to be Heidi. Yet she thinks that the promiscuity of the '70s is giving way to a renewed emphasis on substantial relationships. "Maybe 10 years ago," the comedian said, "everybody was just "Hello, let's go to bed and then we'll talk and have a Now, they're a little more careful. They get a meal first." It was inevitable, though, that the topic change to the controversy involving the infamous NBC list.

Ms. Rivers, PHOENIX Just who is Heidi Abromowitz, and why is Joan Rivers saying all those nasty things about her? Heidi Abromowitz, Ms. Rivers tells us during the course of her upcoming Showtime special, is her "best, best girlfriend" and "the tramp of the century." "At 6, she knew more about reproduction than Xerox. "She's served more men than McDonald's. "She's the biggest tramp since Charlie Chaplin." Actually, the predictably unpredictable comedian told a group of television critics during a free-for-all news conference, Heidi Abromowitz is a fictitious name for a real person.

"The real Heidi Abromowitz?" she asked, rephrasing a reporter's inquiry. "Was she really a slut, right? OK, well, it was the '50s. So, the term slut meant a different thing. She was the school tramp. "I don't know if she went all the way, because in those days, even your parents didn't go all the way.

who recently signed a new contract to remain as the sole guest host of The Tonight Show, claims that someone at the Peacock Network anonymously sent her a memo naming 10 people being considered to replace Johnny Carson when he retires from the late-night routine. Despite her usual high ratings when she sits in for the absent Carson, Ms. Rivers was not on the list. David Brenner and David Letterman were. "It hurt me very much," she said, "but you learn to live with it I've been getting very good ratings on The Tonight Show, and I was put on as the dark horse I was the one they looked in the garbage can for and came up with last.

"And that's fine. You get what you earn and then someone sent me a list And that's fine. Now we all know where we stand. "Don't come knocking on my door and don't come ask me to go to the affiliates' meeting. Get one of those 10 to go.

"But she certainly was the one the boys said, 'We had Following on the heels of her best-selling book, The Life and Times of Heidi Abromowitz, Ms. Rivers' one-hour pay-cable special, Joan Rivers and Friends Salute Heidi Abromowitz Almost Live from Caesars Palace, is a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the girl most likely to. Showtime premieres the distinguished ceremony at 9 p.m. Friday, June 14. Last Thursday's NBA Championship Series game between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers on CBS drew 14.3 of TV sets and 25 of people watching TV at the time.

That's 16 below CBS' audience the previous week, with a Simon Simon repeat. Since ABC's Desire movie also was down from the previous week's ABC movie, NBC's Cheers repeat picked up CBS' and ABC's lost viewers, and rose 20 over its previous week's ratings. Only ABC's Deceptions (part 2), No. 2 for the week, broke into NBC's Thursday night domination No. 1 Cosby, No.

3 Family Ties, No. 4 Cheers and No. 5 Night Court. NBC also took eight of the top 10 and five of the next 10 and won every, night but Sunday, but the official 1984-85 season is over (and won again by CBS) and repeats are rampant, so NBC's victories are more moral than lucrative. It is both lucrative and significant that NBC regained No.

2 in the ratings among evening news shows with 9.5 of TV sets to ABC's 9.4. CBS, No. 1 as usual, had 10.5. Pamela Sue Martin who over-negotiated herself out of a return to ABC's Dynasty, the No. 1-rated series last season, as Fallon (General Hospital's Emma Samms got the role) will host a new syndicated series, Star Games, which will premiere in September.

Ms. Martin's co-host is Olympic champ Bruce Jenner. Teams of stars will vie for nearly $2 million in such activities as water polo, kayaking and relay races. Charles Bronson (Death Wish III theater movie) will star in Act of Vengeance, a made-for-HBO movie about the 1969 assassination of Jock Yablonski and his family arranged by United Mine Workers of America leaders. Production will begin in September.

Michael Wilding, son of Elizabeth Taylor and the late Michael Wilding, will join CBS' The Guiding Light June 20 in his first recurring TV role. Wilding, 30, will create the role of record producer Jackson Fremont. Bill Cosby, the man behind the No. 1 new series of last season, NBC's The Cosby Show, lived too much off the fat of the land. He gained 26 pounds.

Cosby and family are vacationing in France. Jameson Parker of Simon Simon is the son of a writermother and a State Department employeefather whose work took him all over the world. Jameson was educated in Belgium, Germany and Switzerland. Both parents are dead. Adrian Zmed of T.J.

Hooker, which CBS picked up for 17 new late-night episodes after ABC canceled the police series this season, is replacing Deney Terrio as syndicated Dance Fever's host because Merv Griffin Productions, Dance Fever's producers, consider Terrio too difficult to work with. Una Yothers of NBC's Family Ties and Corey Yothers of ABC's short-lived Ed AsnerEileen Brennan Off the Rack comedy, are siblings.
