There are no less than three major outdoor amusement parks Geauga Lake, Cedar Point and Sea World within minutes of area fun-seekers. And all three parks expect more than one million visitors to pass through their respective turnstiles this season. First-time visitors to any one of the parks will be amazed at the varied attractions whether they're Sea World's lovable sea animals, Cedar Point's wild rides or Geauga Lake's watery thrillmakers. This year even longtime park visitors will find new attractions. Geauga Lake has spent more than $1.8 million for additions to its New England-style boardwalk area, including the Funtime Sail Co.

restaurant that can handle 240 diners. While Sea World's $3.2 million penguin exhibit tops its list of new attractions, the park management is equally proud of its new Stream Habitat Aquarium displaying Ohio's aquatic life and the dazzling Gymnastics America show. Although Cedar Point's new Avalanche Run ride won't be operating until later this summer, several new live shows are in full swing and serving up plenty of excitement. The new shows include a Wild West barn burner and musical entertainment ranging from Mexican music and '50s rock 'n' roll to the Beach Band, which plays '60s-style surfer music. By Carl C.

Chancellor Geauga Lake, on Ohio 43 (1060 Aurora Road) in Aurora, has been a popular summer fun area for nearly 100 years. In the 1880s, families would picnic along the shores of the 55-acre, spring-fed Geauga Lake. Around that time, a nearby resort built a carrousel next to the lake for its patrons to enjoy. Today, many of the buildings dotting this 100-acre funland bring back memories of the Victorian Era. There is even a colorful old-style carrousel to lift riders slowly to the heavens.

However, the other 99 rides and attractions are far less tame. The Wave tops the park's list for pure unbridled excitement. Parades, rifle salutes and speeches this Memorial Day weekend will honor the men and women who gave their lives in the nation's wars. Ceremonies also will hail the living veterans of the wars.
